Re: Can a 1966 c10 longbed be made longer?
It is the same in theory as making a long bed shorter. Figure out how much you want to add to the length, get another long bed and add to the bedsides .I would think you would have to add to both ends to make the wheels centered in the wheel openings. Lengthen the frame and get a new driveshaft, done deal. I'm sure someone around you could do it. I have done three shortening beds, never had anyone ask about going the other way. Pull trucks do what you are asking about

Our shop will perform any task (well just about) that a customer is willing to pay for.
Altho most don't want to pay what custom work is really worth. We've stretched several chassis/bodies for people over the years. |

Re: Can a 1966 c10 longbed be made longer?
You would most likely have to lengthen the frame, brake lines driveshaft and bed. You could get away with adding a foot or so to the end of the bed but you would have to add onto the end of the frame to mount the end of the bed. That could look pretty goofy tho.

so, why and how long does he want to lengthen bed? if a stock style 9' still too short maybe modify a flatbed truck.

In a 20 acre field lol
All jokes aside he is going to leave the bed off of it. Maybe going to make some type of wrecker of something with a lift or something out of it. Im not sure. Guess I need to get a lil more info out of him lol |

Re: Can a 1966 c10 longbed be made longer?
If all he wants to do is lengthen a cab and chasis so he can install a different type of body, then yes it is doable. Talk to someone at a Truck equipment house (locally) so you can get the weight distribution correct, and so it will fit the body.....normally you would cut the truck in 1/2, then double frame it front to back (just in front of the rear arch or spring hanger) after adding the section and welding it in.
