Talk me out of a big block...

Right now running 350/350, with long term plans for an LS with 6 speed. Saw an add for a reasonably priced running 454, and I've just always wanted one.

How much work to swap it out and run around in it for a year or two until I go the LS route? I don't beat on my truck very hard, so was thinking of keeping the 350 until something else showed up.

Give me reasons not to do this...

Its hard to talk a person out of a bigblock swap. Gotta love the sound of cubic inches.

"I want a smaller engine with less power..." said no man EVER!

I'd suggest you go for it!! Lots of guys here have done it, so any questions you might have can easily be answered.

I'd buy it anyway. You could always decide to drop it in at another time or use it for something else.

Re: Talk me out of a big block...

I have a BB in one of my trucks.. Then again I am not driving it everyday. I can say I love it and it dose have nice sound. The down fall of the BB as to the SB is the price for aftermarket parts. I have a BB from an 89 Burb. I put an Edelbrock manifold with Q jet carb, some Hedman long tube headers, and a Mallory HEI. I am still running stock HP. I don't think I would want anymore HP even though it is that low. The cons would probably be parts cost and gas. It sure dose look nice sitting in that engine compartment. I need some updated pictures.

I think he ment talk him out of it.

You dont want to make all your friends jealous do you.
I'd be worried about making all those poor ladies skirts a flying when that monster drives by.
Imagine the sad look on that dudes face when you win the race.

No one wants any of those things on their conscience.

Re: Talk me out of a big block...

Don't do it. Go directly to LS.
Big blocks are for boats or boat anchors. They're too heavy.

This thread is just another reason to love this forum!

With that said, I think every one of us has wanted a big block at some time. Hell, I still do!

Re: Talk me out of a big block...

If you eventually want an LS then save all the money you'll pour into the big block swap(repair, upgrade, oops that isn't right!!) and put it into an LS swap.
Cool motors with much power and dependability IMHO.

Re: Talk me out of a big block...

Big blocks are fun. But after you watch this video you might change your mind. The LS with proper exhaust sounds so cool. A twin turbo 4.8 is somewhere is my future. I love the platform.

I agree. Save for the ls. I love a BBC, but I'm keeping my 250 until my 6ltr swap.
