66 Fiberglass Flip-up front end
https://plus.google.com/photos/10299...41211415595713Hi all,
I just bought this 66... absolutely love it! The guy I bought it from said that the fiberglass hood was made in the late 60's for truck racing and that he had not seen another like it. Is it really that rare? I can't seem to find one with a simple google search. Thanks. |

Re: 66 Fiberglass Flip-up front end
Welcome to the forum,
Most 'glass body parts are for race use but I have read where a lot of folks have to spend tons of time getting them straight and true and sometimes they don't ever fit. Maybe since you have one from back in the day, it has better fit

Re: 66 Fiberglass Flip-up front end
There is a company http://www.usbody.com/ which makes race and street versions of fiberglass one piece tilt front ends. They make versions for the 62-66 trucks. I'm not saying the one on this truck wasn't made in the 60's but it is possible its newer.
Either way beautiful truck!

Re: 66 Fiberglass Flip-up front end
Just to let everyone know my experience with usbodysource, in the late 90's I bought a cowl induction hood from them for about 6-700 bucks and after I finally got it about two months later it was a total train wreck. I called them to discuss and was basically told I did not know what I was talking about.Needless to say I have not purchase from them since.Ended up buying from unlimited products and my experience with them was not much better but I was able to use it.For that kind of money prep should be minimal. Just an FYI

Re: 66 Fiberglass Flip-up front end
It may be from unlimited products also. I don't think it would be from the 60's with that design of scoop came from the 69 camaro. First glass hood I saw for a truck with one was in the 80's. That scoop and its taller versions started showing up on hoods for everything in the late 90"s.

Re: 66 Fiberglass Flip-up front end
Welcome to the forum
That is a nice truck I have wanted a one piece 'glass front end for my '63 SWB since I first saw them around 1980. At that time I couldn't afford one, and now I am leary since having heard all the horror stories about the fiberglass parts from both Unlimited and US Body Source.

Killer truck, that flip front end really cleans up the front of that engine bay.
