I said jump but I guess a LEAP would fit better DANG ! I remember they had a slight jump in the 80's best I remember about 83 ? 85 ? it's getting fuzzy LOL but I remember the first time I saw one of these truck's sell for $5K I thought it was carzy (AND IT WAS) but man they are going thru the roof now ! glad I have my truck and my boy's truck already LOL

I started a thread about this a little while ago. Some of the good folks on here agreed with me, and some didn't. I will allways believe that anything collectable and old will skyrocket in value. History repeats itself.

Re: WOW! the price of thes truck's have took a jump !

The prices will not due anything but keep going up. What was junk a few years ago is now project worthy. Ten years ago a truck not worth fixing goes for good money today.

Ona related note, there are still enough solid trucks in Texas to go around. I gave $500 for a 72 swb step factory v8 truck that needed floor pans and inner outer rockers. I had never gone farther than rockers before. I also lucked into a $1200 400/400 70 longhorn that is almost perrfect. No rust whatsoever in cab, passenger fender cup is lightly rusted. Originally a California truck!) I still pass on trucks needed roof or firewall repair unless they are parts trucks.

well I was referring to the 67 to 72 trucks ,, people seem to be more focused on the 67 to 72 trucks right now especially if they have no paint ,,,

Re: WOW! the price of thes truck's have took a jump !

The reason you see high prices is because they haven't sold . I see the same trucks over and over again for months on end. The ones reasonably priced get snatched up and the ad is gone just as quick.

I would've made sure the hood lined up a little better than that before selling it.

There is a lot of old stuff that isn't collectible. If something does reach the collectible status of course the prices will rise. The amount it rises just depends on how many people want said collectible item.

When it comes to vehicles IMO there are going to be very few collectible cars from the mid 70s and up. There will be a few exceptions and a few very low mileage versions of something that might be kind of blah, but because of the very low mileage and originality that will bring some extra bucks too.

Those turbo Buick V6 cars seem to be worth some dough. I never got that myself. Those cars don't do anything for me. Yeah they are factory fast and can be built even more ... I would never buy one.

Right you are Tom. There is probably some money to be made flipping a running old truck but a full on restoration is a whole other matter. Rarely will one sell for near what was put into the restoration.

Re: WOW! the price of thes truck's have took a jump !

To be honest I think people are crazy with some of the prices. Up here in Canada you'd think there were only 30 or so of these things around. A truck rotting in a field with nothing even salvageable and guys are asking 1000..bucks. A truck that needs just about everything to just get road worthy 2200-3500 $. A plain rusty but mech ok driver and guys automatically want 4000-5000$.

Re: WOW! the price of thes truck's have took a jump !

I see all these high priced trucks and they sit for years until the owner realizes they are dreaming. They haven't gone high in price because of people wanting them or being scarce. It's because people are dreamers and think they are worth their weight in gold lol That's what I've seen this past year.

Re: WOW! the price of thes truck's have took a jump !

Last time I bought a SWB it was a '72 driver with 350/350 combo and rust free and I think I was into it for $2gs and sold for $3gs. Unless it's been modified or fixed up. I wont pay more than $1000 for a dead truck and usually no more than $2g for a project SWB.

Re: WOW! the price of thes truck's have took a jump !

Glad I got mine when I did.
My prediction is the SWB trucks will level off, but the LWB trucks will keep going up. The market is getting flooded with SWB, stock and conversions.

Every time someone does a half ton SWB conversion, my Custom Camper becomes that much more of a rarity.

Re: WOW! the price of thes truck's have took a jump !

^ True. Rarity is objective, desirable is subjective.

What is desirable in the city usually isnt in the country.
There are some nicely done SWB trucks in my part of the prairie, but LWB trucks are more sought after.

Re: WOW! the price of thes truck's have took a jump !

There are still some gems out there if you take the time and really look, bought my 72 lwb with running I6 and 3ott for 500$ two months ago. Normal rust issues in the rocker panels and cab corners but other than that a solid pickup. I've put anout 400$ in it so far but it's back on the road and averaging me 18 mpg.

My dad had an 86 Grand National while I was growing up. It's what I learned to drive in. I owned one in the early part of this decade. The drivetrain on the Turbo Buicks is awesome. They can be made very fast for cheap which is what hot rodding is all about. I love the 67-72 Chevy trucks, but for a guy who grew up in the 80's there are a few cars from that era that are desirable. Probably the same reason I love the K-5 Blazers from that era just something I have fond memories of growing up.

Re: WOW! the price of thes truck's have took a jump !

I have been trying to gauge the value of 71-72 C20 fleetsides in #3 condition for a while now.

I mainly check ebay for a couple of reasons: It is current, obviously. Prices of actual sales, not just asking prices, can be determined. I can get an idea of the condition of the truck.

I lucked out and traded labour for my 67 lwb stepper, otherwise everything I looked at was WAY to much money for way too little truck.
