new cab or repair rust ?

Went and took some pics of the rust in my k10 cab. My cousin who is my go to guy for body work is sugesting i try to find a new cab with little or no rust problems. Where we live it is possible to find some pretty rust free cabs. Im just concerned with the originality and value of the truck after the process. If my truck was a plane jane no option rig i would be more inclined to do the cab swap and move on. So what ya think do a cab swap or fix mine. Lots a of pics....

There is a one piece floor pan out now that is for the high hump cab. If you were to put that in with some new rockers then take the bucket seat braces off you old cab, you good to go. That would take care of a lot of patching. It also would make for the neatest repair. Jim

I didnt know they made a high hump floor. I looked about a year ago and didnt see one. I will check that out. THANKS

My 72 cab was just as bad so I decided to look for a better one. found a rust free Geogia cab with a good VIN and used it instead. It would have cose me more money to fix the rust bucket than it did to make the new one perfect.

Is there really any difference between the high hump and low hump floors? I thought just the bolt-in trans cover portion of the floor would be different.

I'm not experienced enough with rust to offer any useful advice, but do keep in mind that the VIN (and perhaps hidden VINs as well) will change and it could cause some grief down the road. Imagine the cab you used came from a truck that happened to have been stolen once 30 years ago. Could you lose your truck if it was discovered at an inspection? I have no real idea, but I'd look into the technicalities like that first.

When people rebody Camaros and so on with the Dynacorn body they often cut out and re-use the VIN and trim tag sections. Whether that's legal I have no idea, and may also vary from state to state.

Not saying don't do it, just know what you're getting into with your state before you do it.

Rust looks like the typical fixes... Unless I'm missing something. I say fix it. Unless it's way beyond. Once they're scrapped/crushed.... There's no bring them back.
