Tremec 3550 TKO 5-Speed in a 67-72?
Hello,
I was going to sell my 67 but I can't bring myself to do it. Right now it is my weekend driver only but I would like to put a 5-speed in it and drive it alot more. Has anyone ever put a Tremec TKO 3550 5 Speed in a 67-72 Truck with a low hump cab? If so, were any major modifications needed. I was looking at buying the tranny from the link below. Thanks.......Lumpy http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/gm_3550_package.html

HEY LUMPY, MY TRUCK IS A LOW HUMP TRUCK( ORIGINAL 3 SPEED ON THE TREE). NOT A WHOLE LOT GOING ON THERE. THE CLOSEST THING IS THE LIP UNDER THE CAB. MY MOTOR SITS ON THE I-6 SPOT AND THE SHIFTER ON THE TREMEC IS IN THE MID LOCATION.($225 EXTRA). YOU'LL NEED EITHER A C-4 OR C-6 YOKE DEPENDING ON WHETHER YOU GET THE STANDARD 3550 OR THE TKO. YOU'LL NEED TO SHORTEN THE DRIVE SHAFT AND GET A U-JOINT FOR FORD/GM. YOU WILL ALSO NEED A 26 SPLINE CLUTCH DISK. I USED THE ORIGINAL BELL HOUSING WITH MOUNTS THAT SUPPORT THE TRANNY. (NO CROSS MEMBER UNDER THE TAIL OF THE TRANNY). JUST ASK ME A FEW MORE QUESTIONS IF YOU WANT...I'M SURE I'M MISSING SOMETHING.

The Richmond is a cool swap too.....altho a little pricey(my wallet still hurts....so my wifey says ) Overdrive rocks on these old trucks! I have a .76 6th gear, & 4.10 rear gears.......& can cruise @ 80 mph @ 3000 . The 1st 4 gears are done quick too, like a close ratio muncie with 1 lower & 1 taller gear. That old truck is a fun to drive....never under a load....damn rough on tires tho crazyL
