Is it worth it?

Alright I got my 454 built and was going to put it in my 74 K5 but I am affraid it'll tear up the t-case and th350. So I am gonna buy a new truck... Easy enough of a solution. My dad's friend has a 67 or 8 or 9 chevy c10 swb. The paint aint much but it is original and there is little rust. It is an AC cab that was originally a v8. Right now it doesnt have a motor but a trans is settin in it I didnt check to see what kind. I have a th400 so it isnt a big deal. The interior isnt too bad but the window is rolled down so that doesnt help. It has a clear title. Anyway I spent all of my money on the big block. My dad's friend said he'd let me make payments and he wanted it paid off in 90 days. He is asking $1500. I am 17 and I can get the money but I wanted to see if everyone on here thought it was a good buy maybe not a steal but not a reaming either. Can anyone give me specs on these trucks like how many were made. The motor is about 400 horse so do you think the rear will hold up? Thanks for all your input! aNYTHING HELPS.

The rear end should hold up, Find out what year it is (they're all awesome) and if the body really is really rust free and stuff, then get it, and later on, just get it painted and do some interior work, It would be one BAD truck

a 12 bolt will hold up just fine to 400 horses without a problem theres nothing to worry about there. a th350 built with good parts will hold that easily as well

Just my opinion but I think that supply and demand has alot to do with price and what someone is willing to pay.

Also if it happens to be the year you are wanting. For some it could be they are just looking for a nice truck in the 67-72 range others like me were looking for a specific year.

I was wanting a 67 and having a tough time finding one. I paid $2,000 for mine but that included having it delivered to my drive. I would be more then willing to pay$1,500 for another 67. This is stupid yet funny . I would be less inclined to pay the same amount of money for one with a new paint job. Just not knowing what was under the paint would bug me.

There is a 72 in town with fresh two tone blue/white paintjob for $4,000. Looks good from the street. It's on south broadway for anyone near here. Crap up close. I am including pics of my truck to show you what I got for 2000. Maybe you could compare it to what you are looking at.

Sounds a little over priced from what I see around here Warbones...You could buy the same truck for $600-$1000 around here. Maybe there is more of them around. Last nite counted 12 ( 67-72's) within a 4 blk radius of my house.

i'm with warbones on this one, i'd rather spend a little more on an original paint truck, that way you know what you're buying. a bucket of bondo and some paint go a long way covering up hidden problems. you say it's a shortbed truck so 1500 probably is a decent price. a few years ago i bought a 67 CST longbed 1/2 ton with a 327/turbo 400, p-s, p-b, buckets and speedwarning and drove it home for 400 bucks but i don't see those deals anymore--at least not too often.
i say buy it, dump the big block in it and have fun.

Alright Warbones the truck I am lookin at doesn't have that much rust on the outside. The biggest hole is about the size of a quarter. The seat doesn't have any holes in it. It has pretty small mirrors on it. Probably around 6" tall and 4" wide. I dont know if that makes a difference. It is definately a 68 or 9 I am 75% sure it isnt a 67. It is pretty much a one owner. The grandson has it after his grandpa passed away. Thanks!

Sounds like a good solid truck to start with, but without an engine, $1500.00 seems a little high. I'm all for you going for it, but I would try starting at $1000.00, and work my way up slowly to see if they will take less. Warbones, I wasn't aware the big back window was an option in 67, is that original?

Mitch, Yes, it was a option in 67, you just don't see very many of them.
