how do you remove the defrost dash vents on a 1968 truck?
How do you remove the defrost dash vents on a 1968 truck? I was tearing into my dash the other day & removing the AM radio, the dash speaker, the ash tray & all the defrost/AC vent hoses & could not figure out how to remove the defrost vents in the dash & did not want to try to force them too hard & break them because the plastic is kind of brittle. I did a search here on the forum threads and did not find anything that could help me remove them without damaging them.

They have plastic push ins on them. Reach inside under the dash and feel for them.

Most originals that have spent 40+ years in the hot sun are brittle and break no matter how careful I am with them

Well I say one on each vent. The best thing to do is feel and see though!

They are brittle! There is a catch on both sides.

Use a mirror to see. You can get them out w/o breaking. The part you need to watch is the face. The corners and louvers will break really easy. But if you remove carefully those parts are fine. Get both sides.If you try just one side you'll break the face around the edge

Thanks guys for all the helpful information on removing the defrost vents. I am sure this will help me when I go to remove them tomorrow. Nothing like gutting out the whole dash just to replace the radio, the speaker, all the duct work, the heater core & the dash pad. But if I wasn't doing this I would be sooooo bored.
