You just never know !

You just never know what you may find when you are chasing parts ,I saw a local ad for a long bed and tailgate and went to see what the tailgate looked like and when I got there the truck was pretty much stripped and the tailgate was just fair condition and I didn't need the bed, But the truck had a running 350 4 bolt, Aluminum intake, quadrajet carb and headers ,a 350 trans , power steering and power disc brakes and sitting in the bed were 3 heater fan boxes and a nice small rear glass and I wanted all of that so as I was talking to the owner he told me how he had been building the truck and a friend wanted his clean rust free cab and front clip and made him an offer he couldn't refuse so now he was parting out the rest of it, he showed me a 54 Ford he was rebuilding but couldn't find anyone local willing to polish all his stainless and install his headliner and glass so his project was on hold ...BARTER MODE set in and since I've been building interiors for 35 years this was a no brainer ! I'm installing his headliner, windlace ,carpet kit and front seat polishing his stainless and installing the front and rear glass and bartered my labor for ...

the long bed frame bed and gate
the engine and trans
the power steering
the disc brakes
the 3 heater boxes and small glass
the 2 piece stainless cab chrome
a good set of stock manifolds
a complete set of rally rims
and a heavy duty engine stand
and transporting the frame /drive line to my house

He dropped off the 54 Ford last night and I will have it ready to go back in a few days .....You never know what kind of deals you may find when chasing parts ! In the last picture you can see where someone tried to install the stainless into the gasket using car wax to lube the seal which ended in a severely bent moulding .

Re: You just never know !

Sounds pretty cool. Can you get those little dings out of the chrome?
