Re: cs130 alt in a 72 c10

Is you new AA harness completely stock or has it been upgraded to the CS alternator.
Look at the harness near the large red wire for the alternator and check the plug that goes into the alternator.

This is a good thread for the conversion but it starts out for the SI style alternator and goes on to the CS style. Check the link I posted for the CS conversion and also read the whole thread. if you don't follow any of it just post back and I'll help you out.

Re: cs130 alt in a 72 c10

You have a battery stud that comes out the back or the alt. it goes to the battery or starter stud with a fusible link in it. You have a red wire coming out of the alt plug. connect it to the battery wire about 18" to 24" back into the wire. You have a brown wire coming from the ignition connect it to the "L" wire on the plug.

OK answer these questions for me and we'll get started.

1. Do you have the external voltage regulator with the four wire plug that's mounted on the left radiator support?

2. Which alternator do you have. Is it the 72 or the one from the 94.

Thanks Dave, now if we can just find out what he does have we can fix him up.
Do you know if the kit has HEI wiring and the headlight relay mod?

His subject line says CS 130 so I guess that's it.

Re: cs130 alt in a 72 c10

Ok that's why I asked about the wiring harness and the wires for the alternator.

If you want your battery gauge to work in the dash then wire it just like this picture. Your harness may not be setup like this diagram. in fact it may not even have the two small 18 gauge black wires and the fuses that the gauge requires.

If you can find the 16 gauge brown wire that comes from the bulkhead connector to the alternator, it should have the resistor in it and it should be in the alternator plug connected to the L terminal on the alternator. The other wire
is the red 12 gauge wire for the S terminal and the large wire is probably a 10 gauge red wire that connects to the back of the alternator.
