wiring kit?
Hey guys,
I am running a 5.3 for my 59. I am going to redo all of the wiring. While my motor harness is being reworked for the computer, does anyone know of a cheap universal kit for the rest of the truck? headlights, taillights, dash components, etc? Thanks for your help.

Re: wiring kit?
Use search this forum box at upper right corner with "best wiring" as subject. Returns many previous threads on same topic. I used Ez wire 21 circuit.

Re: wiring kit?
"Cheap Universal" pretty well describes the EZ Wire offering. By cheap I mean low cost, not cheap quality. I used an EZ Wire 21 and I'm very satisfied with it.

Re: wiring kit?
I just bought a Rebel Wire 9+3 last week. I've only opened the box and looked at it, but it looks simple with great instructions. I've heard nothing but good things about their tech support.
I picked mine up at a local Hot Rod Shop for $180 and thats including 9.5% sales tax. I used a different harness for my LS swap in my '51(not sure what brand), but it was not even close to as nice as the Rebel kit. And it was more expensive. P.S.Rebel Wire made in America.

Re: wiring kit?
Back at my computer so I can add more. It depends on what you have and what you want. If it is a stock truck and you are keeping it that way, there are kits that come as direct replacements with all the connectors, sockets, etc. made up. If you are rodding it with aftermarket AC, Steering wheel, etc. you can get kits with the basic fuse panel and labeled wire circuits (like EZ) but you need to terminate the ends. There are other kits that come with the ends terminated. I went with the EZ because my frankentruck had so many different systems I figured I would have ended up modifying the pre terminated kits anyway. My build starts here
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=770 and has lots of detail. In addition to the ezwire kit ($200 shipped) I spent about an additional $250 for sockets, connectors, ground cables, grommets, wire loom, cable holders, relays and switches. when all was said and done total time was about 40 hours. My engine is old school with an HEI and two wire alternator conversion.

Or a universal Power Plus 20 that sells at $254.95 and has the switches (headlight, dimmer). and you would have to adapt the plugs for the speedo head. The does save money if you have the other pieces already both are shipped prices. |

Re: wiring kit?
thanks guys. I am gutting all the wiring that's in there now. I figured since I am dropping $500+ on the motor harness wiring for the LS install, I could cut some cost on a universal that doesn't have motor or alternator wiring since my other harness will have that. im not running a/c, I will probably be running a Dakota digital dash, ididit steering column and I need a hook up the air ride system. sounds like this will be a pain in the as$ and expensive.

Re: wiring kit?
Just pre-plan ( I did large diagrams), lay it out on the floor, and work on each section at at time starting with back, front, engine, then dash. I had extra circuits I ran for "future" stuff so I would not need to stuff odd wires thru the looms.
