96 C3500 HD Project
Hi. I'm not sure if this belongs in here or not. But I recently picked up a 96 C3500 HD with the intentions of turning the truck into a rollback. Its got a Silverado package, PW, PL, Cruise, 7.4 liter and NV4500. The CA is 108"

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
Now for the fun to begin. I removed the bed from the mechanism and removed the slide cylinder to be rebuilt. It leaked very bad
With the bed off: Removing the mechanism: And that's all for the dodge. Last edited by old Rusty C10; 02-27-2014 at 09:37 AM. |

I removed the rear fuel tank, fuel pump, lines, and pump module and excess wiring. Rear crossmember removed: Oops |

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
Now I am waiting for metal to fabricate the new rear crossmember. The pivot of the bed will be attached to it, So I want it to be pretty strong. Also awaiting a new clutch pump kit.

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
Finally got some progress made on this truck
Rear cross member: Some 2" Spaces to mount the tilt cylinders to. This was necessary because the chevy frame is 4" Narrower than the dodge |

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
And now yesterdays progress.
I got the tilt mechanism installed and the tilt cylinders in place. Tacked them on and verified I had full range of motion. Then fully welded the brackets |

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
I also worked on the taillights. Now would be a good time before anything gets painted
The old ones on top. The steel panels are welded onto the pockets on the rear of the tilt mechanism |

Looks great. I really like Rollbacks. Almost bought one once.
Great work with great pictures to boot. My kind of truck too with the Manual Trans. Bill

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
Nice job. I've got a nice Jerr Dan rollback but it's on a F*rd with 7.3
I've been thinking of doing a swap also. Dumb question (The CA is 108") what's that? Back of cab to center of rear axle I assume?

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
Thanks eveyrone. This thing pulls a lot better than my ccsb, but it should with an extra gear and 4.88 vs 3.73

How old is the 7.3? We have a 90 IDI non turbo, zf 5 speed. Mega slow (12 ft stake body dump on a 450 frame)but it takes everything we throw at it. I know I didn't wanna start with that platform. |

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
I ended up putting the switches for the light bar and work lights next to the clutch pump switch.

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
Sweet rig!
Out of curiosity why didn't you use a PTO pump?

Re: 96 C3500 HD Project
I already had long hoses to reach the front, I didnt want to put holes in my floor, and if something ever happens to this truck, I could get another truck to replace it and not be locked in with a manual transmission.
