Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

$550/6 months isn't bad for full coverage. But then again I pay $100/month here for full coverage on my '71 DD with a 43% discount, but we only have one insurance company here in BC and if you have no discount you pay out the ass lol

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

I hear AAA has good rates for DD insurance. Your probably going to have to call around and go with the best rate, maybe just liability and risk not getting in an accident.

Wawanesa out of San Diego is great IMO. I've had them for years, never any problems with a claim or roadside assistance (towing).

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

I don't carry "full coverage" because by the time you get a daily driver covered for its actual value, it just costs too much. If I crunch it, I (or the other driver) will pay. It beats having it totaled and having to try buying it back from the insurance company.

You do know that DD insurance only covers what they think it's worth in the event of a total loss, not what you think it's worth or have in it?

Hope it works out. Insurance can be a difficult and expensive subject.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

The best insurance company i've found is a progressive agent called Leslie Kays. I originally heard about them when i was looking for motorcycle insurance. I saved money by adding my 72 to my policy with my other truck. Doesn't cost me a thing. My dad went with a classic car policy with 1k mileage limit on his, but he just won't listen. They are based out of Florida but i live in Louisiana. Never had a problem. Highly suggest.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

I drive my 72 4x4 big block EVERY day. The amount of money I've saved by not carrying full coverage is far more than all the money I've put in the truck. If you elect to get full coverage, please make sure it's for the value (in writing) the truck is worth. Insurance will not prevent bad things from happening to your truck, defensive driving will. Regardless of how much we believe they are worth, I would bet an insurance company will find a "book" value that will leave you broke and truckless.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

I to will not run full coverage. If i smash it i fix it. No salvage titles for me. I have fixed it once already. It kind of sucks to do it this way but i will not let someone kick me when i am down by paying me cents on the dollar, Or telling me where or when i can drive my stuff.

Re: Daily driver insurance Help !!!

Just get minimum coverage and drive it, the only one who benefits from it is the insurance company.
I looked into insurance when I finished mine, and just decided to be my own full coverage insurer.
I'm a real good driver, and know how to read most of the other idiots on the road.
And now 17 years since I have not had any wrecks or problems except for my own goof up, in of all things a parking lot, hitting a pipe put there to keep me from hitting a utility pole.

State Farm has a stated value policy that is very reasonable.
