What is this!
Sorry I couldn't upload a picture but can anyone tell me what those metal cups are that go around the valve springs? They clip underneath the valve springs on my 454? They have a slit on one side are a royal pain in the hind end to remove and install. Just curious as to what they are called and what purpose they serve. I have done an internet search for them but I don't guess I am calling them by the right name and haven't see them installed on other BB pictures I have looked at. Thanks guys.

Re: What is this!
My guess is they aren't in that pic if he's talking about what I think he is... im guessing some kind of an oil shield. Splash guard I think they're only on stock valve train?

Re: What is this!
suoerwade57 I'm guessing some kind of oil shield too. Curious to what they are called and why most people aren't using them in their setups.

Re: What is this!
Sure those cups are not broken? I am pretty sure they are just oil shields but i don't recall them ever having slits in them. I don't have a lot of experience with big blocks so i could be wrong but i don't remember them having slits on my brothers 454 they were one piece.

Re: What is this!
Believe that part is an oil deflector to keep oil from running through the valve spring.
