Hey guys,
I have been lurking for a while looking at everybody's trucks. There are some awesome builds on here. I just have a question about the truck I bought my son. It has leaf springs on it instead of the coil spring, was this a common set up? I haven't seen very many of them from 72 set up with leafs. I have also had a guy offer me a short bed frame, I was thinking about going with that frame and cutting my bed down. All information and comments are appricated. |

you don't see the leaf springs often except on the gmc trucks yours must have just been ordered that way
you really should put some pics up

Chevy's came stock with coils, with leafs optional and GMC's came stock with leafs, with coils optional. LockDoc

Amazing what I learn from the folks on this site! I've been turning wrenches on these trucks for over thirty years and did not know that. I came from a region of primarily 4wd trucks and the only 2wd's I remember were Chevys, but I still can't believe I never ran across that handy tidbit! Thank you!

Good looking truck ya got there. That brings back some memories of my younger years...my pops had a truck just like that. 307, 3OTT. I always wanted that truck. I left for the military and my younger brother wrecked it. Dad fixed her up with some parts from Smittys in Missouri (if any of you guys know him) and then sold her off...I was highly upset lol. Sorry for my flashback there, but I always wanted a truck just like that.

Is the option sticker still on the inside of the glove box door? It will show the leafs as an option

Funny, the Chevy was advertised as more of a work truck and had the nicer riding coils and the GMC was the 'upscale' truck with the more load capable and rougher riding leafs-go figure!

I have leafs on my 71 Cheyenne lwb. The SPID shows it as option # G70. You are correct on them being rare on the 2wd trucks.

I wish my truck still had the sticker on it. Just to clerify, no the ride doesn't bother me. I have a 1986 dodge 1 ton truck that I use for personal work. I was just wondering why this truck had leafs and I hadn't seen any like that.
