1966 tilt wheel
Anyone replaced their stock steering column with a Tilt with key and column automatic shifter from another truck????
I'm wondering is this can be put in my 66 truck do you have photos of it in your truck?

Re: 1966 tilt wheel
I pulled the pin on the shifter--shaved the lump, pulled the hazard switch--shaved it and can guess that if you pulled the rack, the switch etc you could shave the hump there too. Harness is an easy wire swap and in the FAQ there is a write up on the neutral safety switch relocation/modification.
Mine is in my build thread.

Re: 1966 tilt wheel
I had one in my 65 several years ago but changed it to a 72 tilt. Sorry I don't have any pictures though.

Re: 1966 tilt wheel
The column in my truck is tilt/telescopic! It is out of a 1966 Oldsmobile Tornado. unfortunately I was unable to find any pics of it. I will continue my search though.

Re: 1966 tilt wheel
I think there are some posts here about using a column out of a van--you don't have to shorten. Can't find them at the moment, though.

My 91 column has the key in the column, but there is no shift indicator. You can tell which gear it is in by feel. I do not miss the indicator..... |
