3rd Row Tahoe Seats

I picked up a set of third row Tahoe seats in tan leather that are line new for $150. I can't find any posts where people have installed these. Does anyone have any how-to's on this seat? They are the ones that clamp onto the round brackets that are typically bolted to the floor of a Tahoe.

Re: 3rd Row Tahoe Seats

Many things have to be considered before buying a replacement seat

Mounting - with the seat you purchased you would have to fashion your own mounts for it

Width - many of the rear seats just aren't wide enough to use and you may find yourself sitting off center of the steering wheel once you have them mounted .Also late model front seats may be to WIDE and will hit the arm rests or door panel when you try to close the door

Height - Just because it looked good doesn't mean it will work , to high or low and you'll wish you never changed it

Construction - many of the late 80's and early 90's chevy seats where made with the material BONDED to the seat foam and you can not reupholster those type seats easily so your stuck with whatever color you bought .

All automotive leather seats are only real leather on the seat faces (the part that touches you ) the sides and backs are vinyl the color matches are pretty much perfect from the factory ,A full vinyl seat will last a very long time leather needs to be cleaned and conditioned every year at least using saddle soap and mink oil ,do not use commercial leather treatments many contain alcohol as an ingrediant and you really don't want to wipe leather seats down with alcohol on vinyl its useless other than to make your seats shiny

Vinyl has pores just like real leather (cow skin ) using protectants and conditioners on vinyl is a waste of money

If you get grease or paint over spray on VINYL you can just use low octane gasoline on a rag and it will readily clean and condition VINYL seats --VINYL is a petroleum product and is not damaged by cleaning with regular gas wipe it on the wipe off the residue to prevent hazing .

Cloth seats or headliners can be cleaned using Lacquer thinner on a clean lint free type cloth for small areas DO NOT SATURATE the material you are trying to clean simply wipe with a damp rag . NEVER CLEAN VINYL WITH THINNER IT WILL MELT THE MATERIAL AND DISCOLOR IT PERMENITELY

and NO vinyl dyes do not work on cloth seats /seat belts/carpets /or high traffic surfaces like the seats .

Re: 3rd Row Tahoe Seats

As an owner on an '01 Tahoe, I do not see those 3rd row seats being easy to use in other places. I have never taken one apart enough to see how they are underneath, but the mechanism you can see is not easy to retrofit to other mounting. It may be easier to take off what is there on the seats and make your own bases.

Re: 3rd Row Tahoe Seats

I have an idea as to mounting. I am just wondering if it has been done before. The seats are a perfect size in my opinion. I can mount one on either side of the cab and have enough room to build a center console between them.

Re: 3rd Row Tahoe Seats

Pulled the seats out this weekend. Welded the frame together and painted it.

Installed my amps, and then bolted the seats back up.

Installed my console that I made. Not 100% happy with it, but it will work for now.

Need to get some color bond to paint everything to match.

Looking Great! I love it when people say it can't be done! These seats are available everywhere for not a ton of money. Looking forward to how they look in your truck!
