polishing valve covers

Looking for some help as to the best and least expensive way for me to polish my aluminum valve covers and if that goes good maybe the intake too. Any help would be appreciated

mothers mag polish,lots of work but will do the job,intake i dont no

NOVAFROG; Thanks for the comeback. I didn't know about the detail forum until this post. After all the different kinds of posts on the parts forum, as Hillary would say, what difference does it make. Besides, how many members check the detail forum often?

Take some time and search the web for razor buffs. These are small round buffing wheels (3" to 4" in size) that can be used on either an air die grinder or an electric one. With the different polishing material and these buffs, you can polish your valve covers out without working your elbow grease out of the socket. I get my polishing sticks at local truck stops and then use the buffs to do the work.

Oh and by the way Howard, this is the detailing section. Just an observation

Are your covers and intake "polished" (smooth finish) already, or are they raw (as cast) aluminum?

The Valve covers are already smooth but the intake is not. I'll bead blast the intake and, with your information, polish the valve covers.

You might consider clearing the intake once it's blasted, that way you won't have to polish it.

Careful on your choice of clear coat. I have seen many that turn yellow with the application of some engine heat.

I'm in the process of doing mine right now... Jon (1963c-10) put 40hrs polishing one of his and it came out quite well

I started sanding with 180 and am at 400 now (granted mine had blemishes) going to work my way up to 1000 and finish with 1200 grit then polish

Those pictures dont do any justice. I have seen the cover he did in person and its spectacular.

I've taken a break on mine since I'm going LS and can't use those covers on the new motor.
