Re: street demon 625 carb?

I'm interested in this to. My holley is starting to leak and the demon body is supposed to more resistant to fuel leaks.

thats what they say. if im not mistaken they have a secondary air flap that is one piece or something like that. i know a guy that runs a similar motor to mine in his 32 ford and he said going from a edelbrock the demon was like fuel injection, he bolted it on and never looked back. thats hwat im interested in, how well they run. worth the 330$ a guy just offered to buy my 4160 and ive always been interested in the demons so i figured itd be a good time to upgrade

Re: street demon 625 carb?

The main benefit is the body design. It only seperates at one point which is above the fuel bowls. Therefore there are much less gaskets for fuel to leak through.

Re: street demon 625 carb?

Barry Grant has been out for awhile. Holley bought them and it's now their cheap carb. What that means is if you take either out of the box and put it on, the Holley will beat it hands down.

The old Demon carbs, if you get your hands on one it will be great, new ones not so much

Re: street demon 625 carb?

All carbs will leak eventually. No matter what brand or model.

I would replace the 4160 with another 4160. I think you would be disappointed from switching from the Holley to that new Demon thing.

Re: street demon 625 carb?

I am not sure how you could consider a demon a cheap Holley since the demon is based on the thermoquad design. Plus the demon is no cheaper then a Holley price wise. I know that it will eventually leak and don't get me wrong I really like the Holley I have on my truck. But every write up and article I have read on the demons says that they are easy to tune and are heat and leak resistant compared to a standard carb due to the design of its main body.

Re: street demon 625 carb?

I had a Demon about two years ago and I had issues, Idle adjustment and sticking floats. Could have been a lemon but...
I now use QuickFuel carbs (Holley copy's with all the good Holley extra cost features included). 4 idle circuits, bowl fuel level view ports, reusable gaskets, dual pump, coated for fuel corrosion protection. And so far no issues on both I own.

Re: street demon 625 carb?

I have the Street Demon 625 on my truck and like it a lot. I ran it on my old 327 for a while and it is now on my 355. Very easy to tune, essentially the same as an Edelbrock (Carter), but seems to have most of the inherent issues designed out.

Worked perfect out of the box on the 327, and required minor tuning on the 355.

For my application I had to install a larger accelerator pump nozzle, put the accelerator pump linkage on its highest setting, and adjust the secondary air door opening. So far I have left the rods/jets/springs alone.

I find it very smooth, great throttle response, huge kick in the pants when the secondaries open. Starts easy, idles smooth.

They have a pretty decent manual and I've had good luck with their customer service. I called the tech line a few times while I was adjusting it.

I had an Eddy 1406 before this, and gave up when I could never get a consistent idle. That carb was on the truck when I bought it, and I think it needed to be rebuilt.

Re: street demon 625 carb?

Also, FWIW----you can't compare the Street Demon 625 fairly to any Holley, or to the Demon carbs made a few years ago. Its very much an Edelbrock with many of the issues designed out.

I got mine on Amazon for about $275 by signing up for their credit card, so I figured for that price I couldn't go wrong.

Re: street demon 625 carb?

Ive heard and read lots of good stuff about this carb as well. It seems to have great throttle response from everything I have read. I like the triple booster idea. There seem to be several naysayers about Demon carbs. I think this stems from Berry Grant days when QC went out the window. I would like to think now that Holley owns the company they would be more diligent about their finished product. Either way it looks like an interesting take on a street carb. Its as if a Quadrajet had a luv child with an Edelbrock who happened to be the grandson of a Thermoquad.

Re: street demon 625 carb?

I didn't know about the 625cfm. I have a 670 waiting to go on my 327 when the truck is done. I think the 625 will be better suited. I've seen the Street Demons get better reports than any other carb commonly available.

Re: street demon 625 carb?

I had thought the 625's were based on the old weber/carter design that had just a few problems like if you had much fuel pressure [like over6 or 7 lbs] it could override the needle and seat. The n/s's were bad about the sticking issue. Fuel pump regulators and a good type glass filter by the carb normally took care of most of those type problems for me on that type of carb, and if it has been redesigned it would be an awesome street piece. They say 6 psi max, and I run mine at 5.5.

the big thing they did is put an adjustable spring on the secondary air door so you can tune out the bog when the secondaries open.

Fuel regulators are worth their weight in gold,no matter what you run. can get by w/o,but way better with all around

New gaskets are a lot cheaper than new carbs. Since Holley bought Barry Grant out several years ago that line has declined considerably.
