Rear Coil Spring cup qwerstion
Ugh.
I've managed to change out three of my springs/shock absorbers, but the rear driver's side is giving me fits. I can't back out the lower spring cup bolt. It's seized up with about a half-inch of bolt remaining above the cup. Anybody got a solution? Am I gonna have to hacksaw through the bolt? Can I heat it and bang it loose enough? Is there a tool that fits over the square "nut" that's part of the dang cup so I can hold it steady enough to force the bolt out with my rachet? I'm in a bind because this is my only vehicle. Any thoughts are 'preciated. Thanks, 68ChevC10 ------------------ 1968 Chevrolet C10 Stepside. My driver. Aint life cool.

The old ones are original and my truck leans when I sit in it. (No, I'm not fat. hehe. I've lost 40 lbs actually.) My ride is so rough I knock teeth out going over a bump and you can bounce the truck with one hand.
So... They need replacing. I ordered new coils, got the front on, got the passgr side on and now it's one to go. I made a trip at lunch to the store. Got a set of hacksaw blades and I'm gonna cut it out. I don;t have a torch or access to one. Ugh. I'm gonna hurt. I figure, and I may be wrong, I'll cut the bolt, (picked up some replacement bolts) try to extract what's stuck in the cup, tap it out if I need to and then voila, she's back. Randy, I've e-mailed you twice about buying one of your air cleaners. You get anything from me? I wonder if my service is flaking on me. 68ChevC10 ------------------ 1968 Chevrolet C10 Stepside. Can you lock on a pair of ViceGrips, brace them, and then just manhandle the bolt off? Perhaps clamp the bracket to the spring...?

Gonna try that. I have a couple of C-clamps that I think might fit in the cup against the squared-threaded part. Maybe that'll hold it in place while I throw out my shoulder pulling on my cheater bar.
Anyone got a good chiropractor? The things we do for our babies 68ChevC10 ------------------ 1968 Chevrolet C10 Stepside. My driver. Aint life cool.

I changed my rear springs about a week ago. That happened to me as well with them getting seized up. Do you have access to a sawzall? Thats what I used. I was able to loosen them enough so they would hang down a little bit. Then I went to work with the sawzall (Dont have a cutting torch). I showed them who was boss. Then I went down to the hardware store and got some new hardware.
