1972 C-10 Longbed, 2 wheel drive, questions
Okay guys, I have three questions.
What do I do about a bouncing tach needle? From idle to 2000 rpms needle bounces. Seems to smooth out after 2000. I have checked ground wire, power wire and signal wire. All seem to be fine. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am running an HEI. I am using the power wire from the old coil. I think I have read that it is wrong to use this power lead for the HEI. If so, what do I need to do to get power to the HEI? Could this have any effect on the tach problem above? How far does the screw in the center of the brake booster, that pushes the piston in the master cylinder, need to be screwed out? Thanks for any information you can give me. |

Id clean the tach 40 years of dust can cause some issues.
You do need a new wire. Just replace the actual wire, the factory wire has built in resistance. No idea on the master cylinder screw.

The orignal wire is a resistant wire and needs to be replaced with just a regular wire so the HEI gets full voltage when cranking the truck. It should also help with that issue also if your having trouble cranking it.
Don't know about the screw.

I don't want to hijack the thread but can someone say what gauge and resistance the wire should be? Just wanna learn a bit more.

The tach is new the screw in the center of the boster can anyboby give info on that.

My dad's 69 dodge had the same problem with his tick tock tach dash. But we just drove it easy( I can't lie it's a 440, we didn't drive it easy) but it straightened out after a couple hundred miles. Just drive and enjoy it and wait

Or you could just drive it, enjoy it, and wait by the side of the road for a wrecker to come pick you up.
