My dad drove this truck from about 1990-2000 at which time he stored it behind barn. He recently told me hes getting to old to do anything to it and its mine if I want it. I was so happy ive been collecting parts and am getting ready to start on it. It was a blast to drive to highschool lol

My earliest memories of my grampa and his truck. A 71 chevy 3/4 ton. Light (mint?) Green camper special with a little chrome fire extinguisher with a broken noisy hasp holder. I can still hear that broken hasp clinking on every bump on the way to cuba nm or holy ghost lake. My grampas a good ol guy

My grandpa-in-law bought my 69 LWB. My father-in-law drove it for the first 39 years before he gave it to me. I have driven it for the past 5 years. It is parked now undergoing the beginning stages of a frame-off rest-mod and it will be my boy's 1st vehicle. Hence the handle of 4th Gen. C-10.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My '68 GMC custom was my dad's first and his buddies before that. Dad drilled clevis type anchors to the exterior bed so he could tie rope to it. Bought it from him when I was 15-couldn't wait to get my license-would wash it everyday in the driveway... First thing I did was fill the holes and repaint, then remove 307 and put in a Chev 302 crossram, mags and newer paint and stereo...ooooh the prekids days

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My dad bought a new 68 LWB, 6 cyl, 3 speed, from Claude Withers Chevrolet, in Harrison. The shifter hung between first and second a lot, and it had a smog pump. He traded it in when the 69's came out. the 69 was his first V8 automatic truck. He built several 71 and 72's in his retirement. He hated shows so my mother would take them by herself. People used to get a kick out of it when this little old lady would come driving in a nicely restored truck.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My dad had a few. Two stick out being a early 80s k10 with a small lift and "KC" lights on the roll bar. Another was another early 80s c10 short bed. I didn't like that truck at all back then but wish I had it now.
My grandpa always drove one and had just about every body style.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My dad owned multiple '67-'72's. All lwb 2wd work trucks except for his '71 Cheyenne 4x4 long bed. That was his baby and he sold it when I went away to school. I never thought he'd sell it.

My Dad and Granddad owned one of them when I was kid. My Dad had a dark olive '70 K10 SWB, and my Granddad had a blue '72 C-10 LWB. Unfortunately I don't pics of either.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My dad never had one, but here was a 69 K-10 that was owned by 3 of my uncles at various times. I learned to drive in that truck, long after it was relegated to farm use and snow plowing. It still sits out behind my uncle's barn (he passed away a little over a year ago) rotting away. Too far gone now, imo.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My dad was a Ford man. He had a 63 F-100 like this one.
I grew up to be a Ford man also and bought a brand new 1975 F-100. Years later I was looking for a good used truck, so I began a search for another F-100 or F-150. At the time, every Ford truck I found was just above my budget so I decided to bite the bullet and "Settle" for a Chevy. I purchased a 71 C20 with a 350 and four speed manual. I absolutely hated the color, Ocher, but to my surprise, the truck was not bad at all. I drove that truck for a few years and sold it. In 2004 I was again looking for another used truck and I was still in Ford mode but "Settled" for a Chevy. This time it was a C10 with a 350, automatic transmission and Ocher in color. That's when I realized that Chevys were my destiny. I still have that truck and I can't imagine ever getting rid of it. When I restored it, I painted it the original color, Ocher. |

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
Yep - Dad bought a 69 GMC 2wd short stepper; hugger orange, 6 cyl 3 on the tree. Got delivered with no grease in the rear end and it locked up and spun him around on the drive home from the dealership.
Got built into a 292 cu in straight six, 3 rochester 2 bbls sitting on a homemade intake with a Pontiac tripower progressive linkage, 3.11 low gear Saginaw 4 speed with a Hurst floor shifter, true set of dual exhausts, spare mounted inside the box. This is the only pic I can find of it: Don't have the pickup anymore but I do still have the GTO. K

I posted this in another thread, but here is my grandson helping put a sport bumper on my Longhorn. I hope he comes back here in twenty years and posts in this thread. He may be too busy changing the stator in his cars motor.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My dad bought a 1972 K5 4X4 Blazer from the local Chevy dealer in the summer of '72. It was a demonstrator with 600 miles on it. He basically gave it to me when I turned 16. Man I loved that truck. Had to sell it in 1989 and regretted it ever since. I'll have to dig around to see if I have any pictures of it.

My dad had a 67 3/4 ton Camper Special CST from 78-86. White with green int and A/C. Spent a lot of time hauling firewood in that truck. Had a big Sportsman cab over camper for it too. Hauled a 16' Mark Twain with it. Great truck.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My Dad had owned a '69 C20 with a straight 6 and bulldog 4-spd when i was about 9 years old. He bought and restored a '72 C10 Cheyenne long bed in the late 80's and drove it and used it daily until 1993. It was his prized possession. He had promised it to my little brother when he got his license. To keep it from being destroyed by a young driver, i traded him a '73 Nova SS 4-spd for it to give my brother. I drove it for 2 years before trading it for a new '95 S10. Dad was pissed.
He looked for years for the right '72 Cheyenne replacement. Finally found one in 2008. He drove it a week before having a bad stroke. Times got tough and he couldn't afford to work on it. He died of colon cancer in 2010 and my siblings agreed to let me have it. I started a frame off restoration 3 years ago and, needless to say, when it's finished, I'm going to enjoy it and it will never be sold while I'm breathing.. RIP Dad.. |
