Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
Camaro ran a red light, and the old Drum/Drum setup couldn't keep up.

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
Running the light caused it. Yeah, drums but if you don't have cross traffic on green light you don't need the brakes.

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
Looks like a big road with big signs. I wonder if it's a freeway. The top on the Camaro is buckled. That rear damage is collateral damage,I think.

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
I post this now and again on this site and others and it always makes 3 or 4 pages of debate K hit one of the first things it always gets the top of the camaro ? It has a vinyl top SO is the top buckled ? Or is the vinyl top peeled up ? Is the truck a 67 or 68 ? And many others I posted this on one site and it was 10 pages long talking about it LOL

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
It looks like there might be a place for a side marker light on the front leading me to think 68 but I cant tell for sure from the crunch.
I have seen first gen camaros bucked on the top like that so I would say it is hit hard enough to buckle the top.

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
I'm picturing the whole quarter and door on the other side caved in. Maybe the wheel pushed back or crooked

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
I would say the truck and vette are 68's. The truck has a marker light on the fender. Looks to me like the windshield on the Camaro is busted because it's not clear enough to see the Pontiac in front of it.

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
I agree that the truck and the Vette appear to be 68's the Camaro was hit in the front and back left. The roof damage and windsheild are from front impacts. I would want to think this pic is a little later than 68 though. Take notice of the rust forming on the front bumper of the truck and look under the bumper on the rear valance of the white Camaro. I know the truck is a worker and not a ride around type rig but even if just 11 or 12 months old there should be less stress and damage to the paint on the bumper than we say demonstrated here. This post would be a lot easier and less fun if someone had held up a newspaper with the date as a headline! Thanks for the post that was fun. Jim

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
The Camaro has no frame. Only front and rear subframes which aren't connected by anything but the body tub. In an off-axis hit (one corner only)the subframe transfers all of the force into the body and the stiffening element that keeps the body from folding tin the middle is the roof. Hence, a rear quarter hit causes the roof to buckle.

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
Nobody has noticed the big pipe holder rack setup on the 67 68 truck top left of truck , are those like steel pipes ? Or maybe electrical conduit ?

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
That is all correct about the frame and transfer and whatnot but with that being said if the main hit was the rear hit the buckle would be the B pillar or the back of the roof just past were the pillar and the roof meet. Or at least that is how the thousands of rear hit cars I have seen have buckled not at the front of the roof. Jim

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
the ps door gap on the camaro looks "off" i'm sure the dr side took a good hit with the roof being buckled like that. i'm surprized that there isnt any broken glass or debris or any tire tracks visible.
the rear axle does look outa wack also. and either the dr side door was wacked or its not shut properly it looks cold there is that a snow bank i see through the windsheild? one good thing is those pipes must've been properly secured on the truck as for it being a 67 arnt the white hubcaps 67's only? perhaps somebody with great eyes can see the wing vent on the ps door that would tell us. what on earth is that vette doing way down there you can see they are a long ways away from the road. i'm bettin ice on the road played a roll in this wreck

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
Hard to tell what color the Vette is. I don't think it has the larger parking lights of a 70-72. The main body looks gold to me. Gold (“Riverside Gold”) was offered in ’69 but not ’68. It looks like the passenger’s door is open and it looks orange to me. Orange ( “Monaco Orange” on Vettes =”Hugger Orange” on Camaros= Carousel Red” on Judges) was offered in ’69 but not ’68. If it’s bronze, that’s a ’68 color.

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
As is the truck, IMO. The Camaro is a '67 without question. '67 only taillights, no marker lights, and vent windows.
Now for the truck. '68 Trucks had either white or silver grilles, and never had white hubcaps. A red '68 never had a red grille. The white grille surrounds and headlight bezels on the body color grille is consistant with '67, as are the white hubcaps. I know the two tone on the was in white and it was added, but it would have taken somebody either painting the grille red (or most of the truck) and then coming back and painting the grille surrounds and headlight bezels white to achieve the look. I highly doubt all that was done to a '68 work truck to make it look like a '67! -lol

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
By the White trim rings on the grille, and white headlight bezel, I'm pretty certain the plumber's truck is a '67. A '68 would've had chrome [or bright anodized aluminum] pieces in those positions. I think the truck is heavier than a C/10, judging by the utility bed its carrying. More likely a C/20 or -/30.
Can't be certain as to the exact Mechanism of Injury. I will go along with the theory that the '67 Camaro ran the Red, and got clipped on the LR by the plumber's truck [drum brakes] LF -- both vehicles travelling at 90 degrees to each other - originally. Camaro then spun. If one of the pipes in the side rack [or something else loose on the plumber's driver side] flew out from the inside of the stack and speared the Camaro's vinyl roof, I'd buy that, too. Hard to say without shots from other angles and no witnesses, and not even a view of the front of the Camaro.

Re: vintage crash photo C10 vs camaro
I blew up the photo and ran the plates........took some investigating but found the insurance company which had old the papers in a warehouse. Here's what happened..... A ford had broken down on the freeway ( a common occurrence) and the Camaro was flyin and the drum brakes overheated and the car swerved to miss the ford. The Camaro hit a pole left front and spun and the back hit the truck. The truck was on the shoulder as the 'worker' was havin his coffee break. He sustained minor burns from his spilled coffee.
