There was a restored flatbed truck for sale here locally with the same valve covers on it, i thought it was kinda odd looking but i guess it is factory.

I don't go along with his theory of why these were on some trucks, as far as I know it's still a mystery as to why some trucks got them and others didn't. My uncles 63 came with them straight fom the factory.

Maybe later in the model year they knew about the issue and fixed it before the trucks left the factory. They would have put plaid valve covers on for the same reason,to identify the truck has the upgrade
