Wilwood Master Cylinder

I believe my master cylinder on my 71 C10 is on its way out the door, but I know that if I replace it with another factory unit it will get covered in surface rust like all factory units. To avoid the rust and maybe get a little more stopping power I am considering a polished aluminum Wilwood unit. Has anyone used one of these? How well does it fit? How would it hold up to the elements?

Honestly, I just put a good coat on engine paint on my factory one, if you want to keep the factory look duplicolor has cast metal colored paint. Holds up well until you spill brake fluid on it

Wilwood also sells a tandem style with a plastic hopper on the top with screw on caps. Much easier to keep fluid inside. All aluminum body. Not sure what kind of project your working on, but you can cross this style Wilwood with a Chrysler from your local Advance Auto--Part# 13-1983..$37 vs $105..just an idea

The Chrysler unit is an interesting idea. I just need to decide if I like the look of the plastic reservoir.

Here's mine. Its a 1 1/8 bore to go with power brakes. I also went with the wilwood because the lid screws down. I haven't had any leaks with it unlike the unit I replaced it with that always seemed to leak.

Does anyone know the distance between the mounting holes on a stock master cylinder. I'm at work and would like to compare it to the Chrysler unit.

I can't tell you if that Chrysler master will work or will fit your truck but it's $27.79 on Rock Auto

I would for Advance so its almost always cheaper for me to get it here. Rock Auto charges quite a bit for shipping. But thanks for the heads up.

hey dream, u will have to make the mounting holes on the wildwood unit a little wider. I'll try and attach a photo of mine. I just mounted it this past weekend.

I think you mean the Chrysler master, the Wilwood is correct for Chevy.

I take it that the Chrysler set up is for manual brakes, what about power brakes

Bolt it to a booster or hydro boost

Does anyone know what size nut goes into the distribution block?

master cylinder uses 3/8-24 line nuts if that is what your referring to..the threads are cut pretty deep and I'm using the longer nut in order to make sure my flare bottoms out and seals correctly..

I was asking about the ones that go into the distribution block, but I believe they are the same size as the ones in the mastr cylinder.

I am trying to install my Chrysler unit. Did you have to adjust the rod much? Mine seems to be way off.

no, I didn't have to adjust the pedal rod..i'm using a hydroboost booster

It looks like the pedal is fine but the master cylinder will mot move fluid for anything. I'm guessing its a bed unit.
