How many 67-72 Trucks are left these days?
Anyone care to venture a guess? For all the ones which were crashed, beat on and abused, left in farmers fields to die a rusty death etc. It would not surprise me if its less than 10% just curious.

I would bet it's more than that. These are the most popular body style trucks so I'm sure that a bigger percentage of these were saved vs any other body style.

I'd say there are less of these taken off the original list than any other vehicle ever made. I would say a very low percentage are gone,and mostly from wrecks,fire,and natural disasters

With total production units for 1967-1972 Chevrolet C/K's being in the 2,500,000 +/- range, it was certainly a popular truck. Figure is close but rough, and does not include GMC.

But they are 40 + years old, many have been scrapped, wrecked, and given up on over time. Near me, we have had at least two periods of time where scrap prices were insanely high, and a lot of old iron fell victim to that. I wouldn't think that anywhere near half were still registered and running. I would be surprised if 1/4th were still rolling, but who knows?

I agree that the number is lower than 50%
I myself have probably parted out about 20-25 of these trucks, which means... cut up, scraped, demolished... never to be roadworthy again. Plus the trucks I've watched (maybe even shed a tear) go threw a crusher at a salvage yard in Edgemont SD in 1990. I still have 6 parts trucks that are not titled or running. 2 more I have as current/future projects.
And that's just the trucks that little ole me in South Dakota knows about.

Idk exactly but due to the cost of them I'd say no way 50% are left. I'd say it's in the 5-12% range just because us as admirers of them spot everyone we see makes it look like there's tons out there. On the road or left to rot would really change those figures drastically.

No one will know for sure unless they have access to national registration records. But by asking people who know these trucks best and gathering a consensus might provide a little insight in the question.

Took me near two years to find my near factory condition '69 long stepper. Seems every truck I looked at was chopped, welded, raped, and otherwise violated.

I would think some of the larger parts retailer would have a good idea. After all they're building a business model to make them successful. They must know what the base market is.

Not very many of the original number, that is for sure. Even in country towns where I see a lot of the 73-87 squarebodies, these are few and far between. A lot of old classic vehicles fell victim to the "inner city no junk vehicle ordinance" curse. These were towed away and scrapped. This is likely why these are more commonly seen in rural areas. But even when I tour my state in the rural areas I never see many of these. And the 73-87 ones that I see often are rusted up.

It depends on your definition of "Left". Still exist? Are on the road? If you mean on the road, I think it's less than 1/4. I do think you could get the d.o.t. for each state to show how many are on the road still. But that won't take into account those stored for decades in garages that are perfectly road worthy.(once serviced accordingly) Or the ones that are usable but not used. I.e. in fields, barns, etc. Otherwise, I think the best indicator is CL or ebay and the prices they go for.

Be kinda interesting if we knew how the original sales were distributed around the country. East coast has the population and I cant imagine with the weather and salt that more than 10% of them survived. Same with coastal areas. The S. West, California are where we find our survivors. Gotta have a dry barn to have a "barn find."

^^ Yep. Plenty of salt on the winter roads in the Mid-Atlantic so most older vehicles around here rusted away long ago.

Besides how people at shows love how my stepper looks pretty much stock original. One I hear quite often is how these old trucks are actually more rare than many muscle cars these days. Especially unmolested.

Always remember .... Trucks got used, abused, slapped around, and put away wet.

I voted for less than ten %. However my youngest son & I we together have 24 67 thru 72 trucks in various condition,s. His daily is a 72 mine was a 71 till the engine went down. We likely will haul half of them away for scrap.

HOWEVER, running, driving, licensed trucks? I'd have to say only 10-15% This forum is probably the most popular one there is, and there's only around 50K members. If every one of us had at least one that is legal, that's still only 1-2% of the total trucks sold.

With DGullivers 2.5 production number, if there are 10% on the road, that's 250,000 vehicles. At 25% its 625,000. I'm leaning toward the 10% number.

That be correct - but this board is not really a great indicator of the number trucks on the road. I've been to car shows all over the Southeast and I see tons of these trucks, and very, very few are actually members of this site. Case in point - There are actually more than 20 running, driving trucks in the town I live in, and I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on this forum.

Another point is that there are tons of members on this board that own and drive multiple trucks.

If a truck spent it's whole life in the midwest, then it's long since been melted down. The salt eats them up pretty quick. I had a 72 that had holes all over it including the frame- finally had to scrap it before it broke in two. My wild guess would be that 10-15% are still out on the road

You guys are all wrong.

A total of 607,412 are still around.

But only 605,918 are in the United States and Canada.

Only 393,811 are in original condition. Meaning, not disassembled beyond recognition.

Which means that 212,107 lay either in heaps of parts, parts bins, or in mid-scrap in scrap yards throughout
the U.S. and Canada.

Of those 393,811 in "original condition", only 310,261 are now currently licensed in the 48 states, Alaska,
Hawaii, and Canada.

Interesting that 201,713 of those that are currently licensed are in original trim. The standard for that category is defined as,
"...not chopped, or otherwise may not have the sheet metal or glass 'materially sectioned" (except that the data is not good for the bed
floors or tail gates).

109,154 are still registered for the road and are modified significantly. Chopped, channeled, road buggies, rails, drag
cars (trucks), Foosed, Boyd Crotchingtoned, etc.

Of course, good data for the offshore numbers could be neither obtained nor verified.

And, if you suspect this information might be slanted in one direction or the other, or otherwise erroneous, welcome to the real
world of statistics and bad reporting.

Interesting as it seems...to me, too...sometimes it's best not to know certain things. Like, when you're gonna die. Or, how many
raisins are in a box of Raisin Bran.
