VIN question

The 4th number in the VIN for my 1977 indicates that it's a "Heavy" 1/2 ton. CCL447####### I'm not sure what all is different between the Heavy and regular half tons for that year.

In a nutshell you have a 3/4 ton truck with 1/2 ton axle and front rotors.

I know it has 5 lug wheels front and rear. So, the axle and front hubs appear to be 1/2 ton.

Like andrewmp6 said, it was basically just heavier springs to bring the GVW up above 6000 lbs. I believe the whole purpose of doing that was to allow the trucks to be equipped with engines that fell into the "heavy duty" category in terms of emissions. Therefore they didn't need catalytic converters or other emissions equipment that would have been required on trucks under the 6000 lbs GVW limit.
