Hi guys ,, i just got a scanner and my first priority was to get into my old picture album and get some pictures of orange,, if you have read my posts before you have probably heard me mention it,, it was a factory 4x4 67 shortbed chevy, 4 inch suspension lift, an absolute screamin 468 bbc, a th400 that would break youre neck when it hit second, and a 205, dana 44 front with a 14 bolt in the rear , 4:11's and a rear locker, 35" boggers, hurst qaurter stick, monster tach , cd ,, all the goodies,, i kinda got in a spot and sold the truck when my son was born ,, when he was a year old i had some extra cash and i was persausive enough to convince the fella i sold it to , to sell it back to me,, then about another year down the road another one of those spots hit and it had to go again,, this time it was going to sell loally so it would be easy to buy back,, had alot of kids come to look at it but i refused to sell it to them because i just knew they would hurt theyreselves in it,, then i had an older fella that SEEMED to have his head on straight and said he had owned many 4wd's in the past just none with this kind of power,, he was a couple towns away so i knew how to locate it when i got my money saved up again,, then i got the call,, a fellow board member that goes by hardrock2 called me ona saturday and said " Mac get up to my house NOW!!" now remember this is about 2 weeks after i sold my truck ,, as i started down his road i saw flashing lights, fire trucks and a set of boggers cocked up in the air in the middle of the road,, there was my truck on its lid in the middle of an 8 foot wide country road,, the state police told me they estimated his speed at between 90 and 100 mph ,, and this was on a crappy oil country road,, you know the kind im talking about,, the man had lost control of it and sent it through the air for about 50 feet, his wife was ejected and after the truck finally landed on its top it unfortunatley slid over the top of his wife,, he survived with minor injuries,, it took me a while to convince myself it wasnt my fault,, i realized that i had done evrything i could to find what i thought would be a responsible buyer,, apparently he wasnt responsible at all,, he called me a week later and told me he never wanted to see the truck again ,, so i payed his tow bill and took it home,, thats where it sat covered with a tarp for a while then i decided it was time to finish it,, the body got torched into 20 different pieces, the motor now resides between the fenders of my big green k20,, the frame and axles are in storage at hardrocks house ,, frame is junk its just keeping tha axles together, ,,tranny and transfer is under a tarp in my barn , and the boggers went on my green truck also,, all of the little knick knacks like lenses, shifter and the late 60's white grant steering wheel all are in my garage,,, one of these days years down the road i will put them all back and build another,, just not ready to see it again ,, with all my other vehicles i have ever owned i have always said " AHH ITS JUST IRON ,, THEY MADE MORE" but not this truck ,, this was MY truck!!! this truck was me,, i know there are people on this board that own nicer ones , but they aint this one,, some people on here willunderstand what i am talking about ,, they know how you can get attatched,, others will think im about half looney,, i just wanted you to know the story behind it,, i like to know the storys behind old trucks,, and this is mine
thanks for listening mac this pic is when i first drug it home |

no ,, but i will tell you that where the back of the cab meets the roof seam ,, well that part of the cab was almost touching the middle stake pocket in the bed,, the hood had an indention of the aircleaner ,, the bed was twisted bad enough it was off the frame in the air at the rear over a foot and a half, and yes. unfortunatley the wife was killed in the accident due to her husbands ignorance . after the state police got done searching over the truck for any deffects i looked over it,, i actually had a county police officer that was there with me on the scene of the accident tell me that there was absolutley nothing wrong with the truck ,,i went over it completeley myself to make sure ,, nothing was busted or seperated,, it all stayed together like a tank, the only thing that busted was a lift block in the rear was cracked but it never moved ,, it just cracked ,, and when the truck initially nosed into the ditch it cause the steering rod to rip when it folded the front end,, there were apparently problems going on inside the cab of the truck moments before the accident,, nothing to do with the truck it was problems with the people inside the truck ,, the local authorities believe that they were in an argument because the woman actually worked with my wife at a local restaurant and she had told the manager that she didnt want any weekends off because her and her husband hadnt been getting along,,, and when i was talking to the sherrif at the scene he showed me several guns that werte in the truck ,, loaded and not in cases,, they were just laying in the seat,, and that is actually one of the biggest laws you can break in the state of illinois,, i have almost 3 hoursof video tape of this truck ,, some of me driving it through a huge mudpit behind our house,, some of me doing some pretty impressive burnouts,, i think there might also be one in there of me racing the truck ,, umm there is about half an hour of 2 winters ago it was the worst snow we got all winter and my wife was stuck in town ,, i have video of the drive home and it is really pretty with the glow of the tach and the gauge cluster,, the KC'S shinging on 4 foot snow drifts and the sound of a healthy big block rubling through 3 inch flowmasters ,, it is a really neat tape,, that is were the only pictures of the truck after the wreck are,, i actually put bits and peices of that film to one of my favorite bands llynrd skynrd's tuesdays gone,, and at the very end of the song it shows the truck at the wrecking yard,, it brings tears to my eyes everytime i see it,, now please dont take me wrong here, i know the story is horrible with what happened and all and dont htink that i am being ignorant by missing this truck so much when a person died in it,, it was not my fault ,, and it was nothing to do with the truck,, her husband was not using common sence and saddly his wife paid the ultimate price for his ignorance,, took me a while to realize that, i thought it was somthing to do with my putting the truck together ,, but that had nothing to do with it,, it is extremely sad that an inocent person had to lose theyre life because of someonelses stupidity ,, but it happens everyday and will continue to happen,,,

Hey Mac67
Your signature under all of YOUR posts....you spelled "your" wrong. I think that's kind of funny, seeing as how the word is used. Youre isn't a word at all...You're is, it means you are. |

mac,
i have the same disease too. people have offered me immense amounts of money for my truck, and i cant seem to give her up. she was my first vehicle, and she will be my last. its like she's family. some may call you crazy -- *I* will not! good luck when you reassemble the beauty! we will look forward to the pics and progress reports! 4x4's seem to have an attitude that just wont let them die! can't wait to see it up and running again! great story! good luck! ![]()

sad story, sounds like the wife was the innocent victim and paid the ultimate price.
i have 2 trucks that i never plan on selling, my 72 super 4x4 and my 72 cheyenne 4x4. my super i've just had too many years to even think about selling it, and yes i have turned down offers for more than it's worth. my cheyenne 4x4 was bought new by my uncle, i bugged him for years to sell it to me and now that i own it, it'll never be for sale again if i have any say in it.

Mac,
You did everything you could to be responsible in the sale of the truck. Especially in not considering sale to minors. We just do not know what tomorrow may bring. Things happen and people change. Tradgedy strikes as I well know. You should not feel guilt about this. EdB |

I know I could never not sell my truck. It was my first and only truck that I ever owned. 72 chevy with a 327, even after my brother got into an accident that nearly destroyed it, I've keep my truck in the garage for almost 8 years. I've worked on it as best I could. Its almost finish and I can't wait til I drive it once again.
