Quick '67 parking light question....

I recall reading that this is correct but want to confirm. On my '67 when you pull the switch for the parking lights they come on then when you pull it further for the headlights the rears stay lit but the fronts turn off. I just want to make sure that's how it's supposed to be.

Yes, that's the correct operation for your '67.

Re: Quick '67 parking light question....

Thank you. I guess they figured why have the parking lights on since the headlights are on. Who knows...but is that specific to the '67 year only?

Re: Quick '67 parking light question....

You're welcome!

It's not specific to '67 ... the earlier years were like that too.

The 1968 FVMSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) required vehicles built on/after Jan 1, '68 to have the parking lights wired so they remained on with the headlights. I believe the purpose is to make the vehicle more visible to oncoming traffic if a headlight is out.

It's easy to change if you want to have your parking lights stay on with the headlights. Most headlight switches have a terminal for cab lights that's connected directly to the tail light circuit. Simply extract the terminal (with the attached purple parking light wire) from the headlight switch connector and re-insert it into the (often empty) cavity that corresponds to the cab light terminal. You can also jumper the purple parking light wire to the brown tail light wire. But re-locating the wire/terminal doesn't involve cutting/splicing into the wires.

Re: Quick '67 parking light question....

Ok sounds easy enough. I like it the way it is though so it'll stay that way. Just 1 more thing that separates the '67 from the '67-'72's.
