will 265/75/16 tires fit my
Stock steel wheels? Truck is an 87 V2500 with 235/85/16 tires currently mounted. From what I found from searching the rim width may be too narrow. Thanks.

Re: will 265/75/16 tires fit my
I will measure this weekend but they are OEM and if I had to guess 6.5 inch measured bead to bead. Looking at the rim width specs on tire rack shows a rim width range of 6-7.5 for the 235/85/16s and 7-8 for the 265/75/16s.
If thats the case my rims are 1/2 inch too narrow. I can see that being a potential issue for tire wear long term but in my case i will replace the tires due to age long before they are worn. My current tires are 1/2 worn treadwise but are 10+ years old. Since i bought a camper and will be towing i especially need to replace the tires for safety reasons. The truck is not a daily driver and garaged when not in use. The current tires actually look ok but will be replaced this spring. |

Re: will 265/75/16 tires fit my
They will clear and work just fine on stock wheels. Just keep them properly inflated and keep the truck aligned correctly and you will have no problem. I'm running 315/75/R16's on my new truck (04 F250) with factory 16x7 steel wheels. No problems at all.
For what it's worth, my '83 cleared 285/75/R16's stock. I wouldn't hesitate to run them.

With a narrower rim, you have to stray a little from the recommended air pressure to get them to wear correctly. But it can definitely be done.
