HEI with tach drive
I got in a truck with I think a Mallory. Its an HEI with mechanical tach drive, there is no name or numbers on it. Its the same size as the old duel point corvette tach drive but with HEI. Anybody ever heard of one by Mallory or an HEI conversion for the corvette to HEI? The motor is a 65 365 hp vette motor or so i'm told.

The hard part is finding the HEI, vacuum advance and mech tach drive. I believe you would find what your looking for through Corvette channels. I saw a one of these new at a corvette at carlisle show but it was pretty pricey. The conversion using a already existing dual point distributor with vacuum advance will be much cheaper.

I remember Mallory making a mechnaical tach drive "transistor" distributor about the mid 70's. Never actually saw one except in Hot Rod mag believe Summit ad.

I know you can convert a delco window type dizzy to HEI relatively easily. IH guys do it sometimes to get HEI on an IH for cheap (alternative involves milling and stuff to make an IH dizzy from an existing HEI).
My money's on that he had a dizzy with a tach drive that he converted to HEI. |

Try asking Mallory direct at http://www.mrgasket.com/mallorymain.html and go to the asktech section, I have found them to be helpful in the past.
