12 bolt axle date code

I have a 71 SWB 4X4. I am do a complete rebuild on my truck and have already stripped it down to the frame. I started rebuilding the rear axle. The parts for a 71 don't seem to be correct. I am thinking the rear has been swapped out at some time in the past. The casting number is 3896839 GM55 and the numbers stamped on the axle tube are RAY W095 1. Is there anywhere to decode these numbers? I have searched the web with no luck.

RAY would be a 3.07 out of a '72 K-10. Here are some charts I posted a while back.

Re: 12 bolt axle date code

Thanks for the information. I quess someone changed the backing plates at sometime. It looks like it has backing plates and brakes from a 73 up. These trucks are sometimes a meld of many years and mods.
Thanks for posting the codes I am sure it will help others.
