LS SWAP: Need some help

I have a 84 GMC C1500, I've already had some comments on a different thread from a few guys, the LS has my attention. I got a 84 Gmc truck to work on as a project, got the transmission rebuilt after it have on me. I'm wanting to either rebuild the sbc 350 or throw in a LS. My dad says rebuild the 350 but I want a LS, what are some reasons to convince him to do a LS swap? Also can you get good ones from a junkyard? Got this truck to have a project with my dad, will be a daily driver to highschool after we finish restoring it. Thanks!

Re: LS SWAP: Need some help

well I was old school until last year I got into the LSx thing and very happy I did, these LS engines will run for every if you take care of them its not uncommon to see them with 200k + miles on them very reliable engines and really easy to make some good HP and better fuel economy i personally have a sbc 383 stroker that I built a while ago just had it dyno'd only made 330rwhp for 1/2 the cost with a lsx I probably would of made more HP and have better MPG

350's start @ 180 to 210HP the ls 4.8 is around 285hp, 6.0 lq9 340hp

I just bought a LQ4 off CL for $400 my machine shop charged me $580 to clean, hone, new rings, new bearings, Polish, Arp rod bolts & make sure every thing is ok "if" i was going back stock another $500 for bolts and gaskets call it a day for around $1500 in my case

I've seen and herd of a lot of guys just taking a junkyard engine and running it with out a problem for less then $1,000 hard to beat that

Re: LS SWAP: Need some help

a junk truck is idea. you can grab all the junk you need for it. 20 mpg and 280 hp from a 4.8 that you spent less than a grand on. though id gran the trans from the ls too.
