Power steering install question...
So I'm putting power steering on my '67. I have the stuff on the motor figured out. I'm going to get a box for a '78 so it's less turns lock to lock. My question is which pitman arm and rag joint will I need? I'm guessing the rag joint from the '78 but not sure about it or the pitman arm. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

Re: Power steering install question...
I would think '78 rag joint and pitman arm would be your best bet. I just put power steering in my '67 last weekend. I got pump, brackets, and box with pitman arm off the same truck(early 80's I think) and it all bolted up with no problem.

Re: Power steering install question...
Just finished my 71. Had some parts from an unknown year. Wound up getting new cardone pump from Oreillys, used 71 brackets, single-groove March PS pulley and single groove 71 wp pulley. Collected a single, single add-on, double add-on and triple pulley to make sure I could get it all to line up...It did finally. I have some left over pulleys if youre interested. good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Power steering install question...
You need the rag joint and pitman arm that fit the year model box you're using.

2-The later box mounts flatter with either no need for a dimple or just a little spacing. I wouldn't heat and beat my frame but if necessary I'll spend the $60 and buy the mount from GMC pauls. http://www.gmcpaulstruckparts.com/steering2.htm Thanks for your concerns :-) |

That was not a rude remark, it was a simple question.... The later boxes are the same physical size as the earlier ones so it will need a dimple or spacers. LockDoc

Re: Power steering install question...
Your trucks frame needs to be dimpled for sure, not too much for a hammer and a torch.

He is using the power steering brackets, pump, and pulley from the Camaro, the steering box is from a 78 c10.

Re: Power steering install question...
99% of the questions asked on this board have been asked and answered before. I've researched this subject and many others using the search feature. Instead of being rude and saying "use the search" for an answer, just skip over my question and keep quiet.
As far as heating and beating the frame I won't do that. Spacers of some sort or that kit from GMC Paul's. |

Re: Power steering install question...
I am still working on my ps conversion, I got the pump and brackets off a '74 Nova, and the PS gear from a '70 2wd C10. I had a hard time matching up my pulleys. I ended up buying a 2 groove from Alan Grove Components. It worked out well. You will probably have to cut the fender bracket. I'm currently in te process of rebuilding my steering column. Cheers.

Re: Power steering install question...
My 67 had the dimple , and a power steering box , they came in several varieties , manual , power , and my VERY LEAST favorite , power assist . Power assist has something like 12 fitting it can and will leak from , I replaced the power assist in my 68 with a 78 box and am very happy with it .
Also my 68 that had power assist had the dimple
