solid fan
so heres the story, i purchased a new fan clutch, and new fan. well anyways, the fan i bought had a sticker directly on it stating it shouldnt be spun over 4000rpm. so im thinking of scrapping the fan/clutch setup and go with a solid mount flex fan. supposdly they flatten out at high rpm's and i figured the mpg difference wouldnt change much anyways. what do you think? eventually i will run electric fans. what is your opinion on the flex fans?

I have seen a few fly apart at higher rpm. Best bet would be get an oe from a boneyard or go electric.

I ran a flex fan for a short time when I had trouble with my clutch fan. Truck would overheat.... I fixed the clutch fan and sold the flex fan (traded it for beer, actually). I would never recommend a flex fan. No idea why the 4000 rpm warning on your new fan.... my old Corvette had a factory clutch fan and a 6500 rpm redline.

I think the only way a clutch fan would see 4000+ rpm would be if it malfunctioned and locked up. The clutch fan disengages and free wheels.

^^ Good point -- I totally spaced that out but you're right, the fan itself won't be turning high rpm even if the engine is.
To the OP -- don't scrap that unit just yet. You (and your truck) will be far happier with it than with any flex or fixed-blade fan.
