Thinking about a Suburban, have a couple questions

I've been looking for a 71-72 Suburban recently and had a couple questions before I go crazy with the search. I need it to work somewhat like a truck, as far as getting a dirtbike, sportbike or ATV in the back. My concern is the height inside, and through the rear doors. Does anyone know the exact inside height from the floor to the roof? And also is it a little less around the back door?
I see they have barn doors, and also tailgate type doors, is the distance from floor to top the same with both types of doors?

Also, I know the c10 trucks quite well and know what to look for in them, is there anything specific to look for...or common parts that are hard to replace/rusted out in the suburbans?

Final question, what should I prepare myself to pay for a decent unrestored suburban? I know it depends on condition, but lets assume it needs the basics, rockers, some floor work, fender/door bottoms, etc

Here is a pic of the exterior dimensions from the dealer book available in PDF from the GM site. I am not sure of the interior dimensions but you can see that the rear door/tailgate opening is about is 57" across and about 40 3/4" high. I don't think you will fit those things you listed inside. If you have a trailer you can certainly tow whatever you need with a Suburban.

I have a CRF450 and I can't imagine trying to fit that thing in the back. I also have a sport bike and I think it *might* just fit but wouldn't want to try.

You also have the issue of mounting something for tie downs, and I'm pretty sure you would hit your head every time you tried to load/unload.

Thanks for the reply, seems it's to low. The sportbike is 46" high, so that's not going to fit. I wouldn't mind the hitch carrier for a dirtbike, but never liked the idea of hanging a 450lb sportbike off the back of a truck

A motorcycle will not fit in the back if it is 100cc or bigger.

The hitch carrier seems to be the only answer if you want a Burb. Find a nice one and just but some extra reinforcement on it to make sure it is strong...or build a custom one! I have seen some pretty big bikes mounted on those hitches going down the road, so it can be done!

Maybe you should look for an old ambulance sub. It might have the extra room you need.

I'd expect you'd have to look out West for a 67-72 Suburban, and I have seen really nice Suburbans in the condition you are looking for sell around the 5k range. But, shipping will be an added cost of course.

Thanks again for the replies, something to think about anyways. For the few times I'd put the sportbike in the back, seems all i'd have to do is remove the windscreen and that would fit, the ATV fits by the measurements and the dirtbike would have to go on the hitch
