6 lug fitment
New to the forum, and have a question regarding rims: will a 68-72, 6 lug wheel fit the 48-53 series trucks? Looking for reverse chrome for mine.
Thank you, Ted |

Re: 6 lug fitment
Any 6 x 5 1/2 lug pattern will fit. If your looking for chrome reverse smoothies I got mine from Wheel Vintiques.

Re: 6 lug fitment
No not all will fit. I have some 80's chevy rally wheels that fit my 1950 but then I tried to bolt on some from my dad's 2000 Silverado and they wouldn't fit the front. On the back you are ok but on the front you will run into the opening for the hub being too small. If you are going back as far as 72 you should be fine

Re: 6 lug fitment
Off topic a bit but..........I remember back in the late sixties when reverse rims were considered dangerous.
My Dad used to get mad when I talked about getting a set for my '64 Impala. I never really understood the reason............but hey.......watch out for those "chrome reverse" rims! |

Re: 6 lug fitment
Starting in 73 the wheels have a different profile to accomodate the front disc brake caliper. Also Ford, GM and Dodge wheel all have the same bolt pattern but one manf has a smaller center hole that will not fit GM hubs. You will also need to decide you hubcap arrangement, clipped to the inside of the center section or snapped over the top.

Re: 6 lug fitment
I had some after market chrome rims that started life on a 68 Chev then went to an 83 Sub and then on my 1950. They fit just fine but back spacing could be something to watch out for depending on what you use.

Re: 6 lug fitment
I don't blame you for wanting to stay away from the smoothies as I like the regular reverse rims a lot better.
They are right in that most of the newer rims bolt on the older drum brake trucks but a lot of the older rims don't work on the newer trucks. I spent a few minutes and checked several sources and so far have not found a true chrome reverse six lug wheel. Lots of six lug smoothies but so far no true chrome reverse.

Re: 6 lug fitment
I read that the 99 and up 17" silverado rims will fit the 6 lug 50's truck. Is that true? I know the silverado wheel is a 6x5.5 L/M offset I can get a set of these with 75% tires for 80.00

Re: 6 lug fitment
When I tried putting aluminum '90s GM truck wheels on my '57 I also noticed that the deeper wheel and large offset caused the inside of the wheel to contact the tie rod end.
