85 power window motor replacemeant?
I am having a ton of trouble replacing the window motor on my drivers door. I cant figure out how to line it all up inside the door, how to get it all put back into place(I already took it all out and have installed the new motor onto the regulator) AND I HAVE TO DO THIS ON BOTH DOORS!!!! Can anybody help me on? Pics? Maybe point me to a thread on this? any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I feel your pain! Pulled both window motors out of the blue 85 amd got so disgusted tjat its been sitting a month now without door glass lol. I did my red trucks drivers side mptor amd had no issues as i recall, but lost my patience on this truck. Plus not to mention the switches have been rigged and dont work right.

Re: 85 power window motor replacemeant?
Changed out the motors and regulators on my 83 last year, it's a PITA, after doing the pass side the drivers was that much easier, the regulator and motor have to come out and in as a unit, it is impossible to change the motor with the regulator still in the door

Re: 85 power window motor replacemeant?
Thanks for the replies...and the funny stories here I am going around telling my friends I know these trucks in and out and now there laughing at me lol. I took the regulator out on the drivers side, swapped motors out the right way(I think) but now I can't figure out how to get it all back into the door so it all works again

Re: 85 power window motor replacemeant?
If you do a search on this forum for power windows you will see a lot of posts on replacing the motors. The most important thing for me was to remove the regulator/motor assembly with the window about half way down. Try connecting the harness to the motor with the regulator outside of the door and operate the switch until you get the regulator into a position that allows you to wiggle it back into the door. If the regulator is all the way up or down it will not fit back into the opening.
Here is the basic power window r/r post: http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/interior/winmotor.htm |

Re: 85 power window motor replacemeant?
When you take the motor off the window mechanism, it is under spring pressure so be careful!!

Re: 85 power window motor replacemeant?
x2 - I figured he was already past this point, but you never know. I used a screw and lock washer, nut to secure the motor to the regulator. I also use the trick of using a piece of plumbers strap (galvanized strap with holes in it) screwed to the door and looped under the bottom of window to hold it up.
