I need a good used heater core for my '72 blazer with A/C. I tried a new core but they don't make them the same size anymore and getting my old one fixed is out of the question. So if anyone has a good core around let me know. Thanks

I have bought new ones in the past year and they are the same as always. Where are you looking? Kragan had them for about $45 if I remember and the non a/c for $25.
No, the a/c and non a/c is not the same.
Since they are such a pain in the a$$ to install, I would NEVER try a used one. just my .04 worth

LMC sells them but they're a 1/4" off on all sides. That leaves an air gap in the heater box. I bought one from a radiator shop and it too was the wrong size. Then when I tried to have mine fixed he called the supplier and they told him that they don't make an exact replacement, it's smaller all around by a 1/4". So thats why I want an original.

The Autozone deal sounde like the ticket.. Like I said, Why take the time to put in a used one as they will most likely leak and then you get to do it again. i have never had a problem with one from a parts store not fitting.. Just my opinion.

I bought my heater core (AC) at AutoZone, and it didn't fit exactly like the original. It was close, but I couldn't line up one of the mounting screws - it seemed like it was a little bigger than the old one. Once it was all put back together, though, it was impossible to tell. And for $25 bucks, it was a great deal.

Once again same problem. Called Autozone, wrong size. All dimensions were 1/4" off.

Finding a supplyer that has the exact fit heater cores has been a real chore. We have used Napa auto parts for the standard heater cores, because they fit the way they are supposed to. Dimentionally they are the same as GM's are. I do not know for sure about the A/C cores though. We are working with a company now that is a major supplyer for Modine to try to get cores that are exact fitting. Once we achive that we will be offering them up on our website, however I can garrantee they won't be as cheap as the Auto Zone/ Kragan and LMC cores. I have already checked their soarces and the manufacturer is the same for all of them and they flat do not fit!! I will let everyone know when we are able to achive what we expect from our supplyer. I've replaced mine twice. NAPA all the way. They did accidentally give me an AC heater core once the first time I replaced it. The same company makes both, so the quality was the same.

I wouldn't hesitate. NAPA.

You might want to think about buying a seal kit from LMC to reseal the heater box. You can get both non-AC and AC kits, and it comes with all of the foam, and the rubber seals to go against the firewall. it also comes with resin to glue it all down. I spent a day cleaning and sealing my heater box and it made a HUGE difference this last winter.

stelth2002: They're not the same. The non-AC heater core is really basic. It's a rectangle with inlet and outlet that are straight. The AC heater core's inlet and outlet are pre-bent at funky angles, and end up being close to each other if I'm not mistaken.

Well I happy to report that our new supplyer supplys us with at least the exact fitting non air heater cores. The bonus is they are made in the USA!!! and we have 10 in stock! We will be retailing these on our site for $44.95 and they are garrinteed to fit! Not like some of the other cores that you need to modify your brackets or the core itself to get it to fit. We now have them listed on our website. Our represenative will be returning in the next day or so to show me the cores for the trucks with air. If you must insist on having a USED heater core, FRENCHBLUE72 and I went swamp'n at the local wrecking yards and Im proud to announce that they were EVERYWHERE we looked. I would think that they would sell you one for a few bucks as some of them were being used as a scraper to wipe the mud off your feet as you left the yard. They were in the cabs, the beds, and some still in the heater boxes. I cant say that they were not aftermarkets since these trucks are 30+ years old and they most likely have been replaced over the years but, I do in fact know that they had several. We will be going back later this week to pick up a few parts that wouldnt fit in my little rice rocket 4x4 and we could pick one up for you. Let one of us know in the next day as we may be back there as soon as Thursday afternoon..

WES, my heater core is 6.5" wide, 2.5" thick, and 9.5" tall. Hope that helps.
