Do you have to get a custom y-pipe for longtube headers and single 3" exhaust?

I have an 86 GMC 2wd Sierra, 350 longbox.

The exhaust literally fell off the other day after a long tour of duty. I had asked on here a long while ago about Summit kits etc that have the headers and dual exhaust kits.

I think I'd rather just go with long tubes, and a single 3" exhaust exiting behind rear wheel.

Now before anyone says, just go to an exhaust shop for the tailpipe part of this setup - shop prices here are astronomical and this isn't a show truck. To get a y-pipe fabbed up and then the remaining part of the exhaust will be a steep bill.

Anyone have success in getting longtubes with matching y-pipe? Or am I better just flipping to duals...

edit: starting to see some y-pipes for use with longtube headers on Summit, just have to make sure I have a 3 inch outlet and the proper y-pipe for the headers I buy I guess...

If anyone has success with parts they ordered, please post what you picked out!

Flowmaster makes a nice Y, and there's a guy on ebay that sells boxes full of random mandrel bent tubing in specific sizes. I'm sure I've seen him list 3 inch. That and a stick or two of straight pipe and you can build your own exhaust system.

And after all the searching I did last night, looking at kits, adding mufflers, doing ehaders etc and being on a time crunch because we're moving soon...(and this truck will be the primary moving vehicle)

I found a local shop, first come first serve and got in right away. Whole new exhaust from y-pipe back for $485 with a stainless steel flo-pro muffler. She sounds nice now.

Cool. Sometimes it's just easier that way.

I did a similar system. Bought a Magnaflow dual inlet single outlet muffler, and had the local custom exhaust place build me a system. 2.5in pipes off the LT headers into the muffler, and single 3in out.

Sounds great!

Lol the only thing about getting this work done, is it really draws attention to how bad my passenger side manifold is leaking.

I know everyone says go long tube, but if I can figure out what shorties would work on her - I'd search for some used ones.

The only I went longtube, is I found a solid set of Hooker Super Comps for $50 on craigslist.
