Driveshaft ????????
I have an 85 swb 2wd with 350/700r. My question is that I bought a th400 short tail tranny and was wondering what truck/ car to look for to find the proper driveshaft length for a donor. Thanks!

Re: Driveshaft ????????
Measure to see what length you need..Then go to the junkyard, they usually will have them in one area where you can start measuring.
I found that a crown Victoria police cruiser aluminum drive shaft was the exact same length as my shortbed. |

Re: Driveshaft ????????
Get a drive line out of a LWB truck, measure the distance that you need and have the longer driveshaft cut down and balanced at a shorter length.

Re: Driveshaft ????????
I would go to
A-1 Driveshaft in Baltimore 1642 Beason Street 410-752-3000 We had one cut for my '68 long bed after putting a 350 Turbo in it and I was very satisfied with the quality and service. I took a few different routes and wish I had just went in the first place, junkyards are more or less a waste of time.

Re: Driveshaft ????????
Thanks guys for the info. I do not have the th400 in the truck yet. I know my driveshaft will have to be longer in length. I was just thinking someone on here had run my set-up sbc/ short tail th400 and knew right away what shaft out of a certain car/truck would work without installing it first. But from the sounds of thing I'll go to my local yard to find a longer shaft and have it cut down. Although the crown Vic driveshaft sounds interesting since I'm going to be using a 2004 front cradle from a crown Vic. Thanks again for everyone's input.

Re: Driveshaft ????????
I got the idea from watching gas monkey. The crown Vic cradle is aluminum bolt in unit with bigger brakes and rack and pinion steering all in one. I'd save a lot of weight , better steering and more braking power.

Re: Driveshaft ????????
Just a reminder the t400 uses a bigger yoke than a t350 or a 700r-4

Re: Driveshaft ????????
You know its 5x4.5 lug pattern right? And your truck is a 5x5 unless you changed the rear end in it.
