A/C Compressor Blew Front Seal
Summertime, using the A/C. Last Wednesday, my cool air went south. The compressor front seal let loose, slinging oil all under the hood. It's a Ready-Aire rebuilt compressor, only a year old. Installed it last summer along with fresh R-134a oil,reciever/drier, and new rubber hoses. Cooled very nicely until the other day. Anyone with similar problems? Did the system over-pressurize? Possibly too much refrigeration oil? An uncool situation.

I doubt too much oil caused it, excess oil would just migrate to lowest part of system such as bottom of evaporator of condenser. If system was pumped down and correct amount of freon was added it was probably just a bad seal or bad rebuild.

I would have to say that it was just (un) luck of the draw. Sometimes they last, sometimes they dont.

Expansion valve, huh? For 35 bucks that will be replaced. I've heard there is always a risk involving rebuilds. Apperciate your comments, gentlemen. Can't imagine how much freon it takes for a Kenworth.
