Transmission Kickdown

Have 72 chevy with a 350/400. I don't have the transmission kick down set up. Does anybody know where I can get one? Also a picture of how it is set up under the dash.

Re: Transmission Kickdown

if its like my th350 kickdown, then it doesn't hook under the dash. it's a cable that runs from your carburetor linkage near the throttle cable down to your transmission.

I'm having trouble with mine currently.

I'm assuming that if it's similar to the th350 trans, then you must have a plug or something capping where the cable goes into the trans otherwise you'd be leaking fluid all over the place

Re: Transmission Kickdown

No it is an electronic button down by the gas pedal, at least that is what the transmission shop told me.

Re: Transmission Kickdown

Check the parts board. 71-72 both used the same set up, but only on TH400. It is a switch that is activated by the pedal arm coming iinto contact with it. Prior to 71 it was a switch that was mounted on the intake that the carb linkage activated. You could use either style, but the gas pedal must have the provision for it if you use the 71-72 type, and they are probably easier to find than the earlier type. Good luck in your search.

Re: Transmission Kickdown

A few years ago I was putting together a truck with a TH400 and like you had no parts for the kickdown. I wound up using this kit....

http://www.lokar.com/product-pgs/thr...s/th400kd.html

It's not the cheapest, but it works super slick. You mount the cable to the carb like a TH350 would have, and the electrical box to the trans pan bolts underneath the truck. Like all. Lokar stuff, its of the highest quality and made in USA. Don't know if stock appearance is vital to your build or not but it's something to consider.

Re: Transmission Kickdown

American Autowire sells the harnesses, I think Brothers or classic Industries carries them also, switch too.

Re: Transmission Kickdown

Hi a seller named Roger Koop (I think) set me up with an excellent TH 400 kickdown switch and harness. Switch bolts in a accelerator pedal, one lead goes to TH400 and the other lead to fuse box and I think pigtails to the radio lead.

Nice set and easy in. Lokar also makes a Th 400 kickdown that bolts to trans and runs to carb.

Bought them both but went factory.

search the parts board.

Good luck
