Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
I'm building a 67 c10 and I've weighing my options on which motor to go with, I've been looking into the lsx376 b15 with the forged rotating assembly with a 2.9 l whipple supercharger setup. Just not too sure which injectors, coils, ect. To use to complete my build and will it clear the stock hood?

Re: Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
you can figure injector size by working backwards from your estmated max torque goal. get that number, figure the fuel needs for it in lbs per hour and calculate the injector size from that.
here's a link to a calculator, but like anything free it's usually worth what you paid for it. http://www.witchhunter.com/injectorcalc1.php Use it as a ballpark, but it's best to talk with your tuner since he will likely have an opinion on what works best for a given set-up. |

Oh gotcha. You know what computer/wiring harness/tuning software you're gonna use? that'll make sourcing sensors and other bits a lot easier.

Re: Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
I have a TVS1900 on a LS3. Check out my 68 S/C build thread. Factory coils will work just fine. I'm guessing you will need around 60 lb injectors (@58 psi should give you 70+ psi at the rails). You will also need a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator, wihich requires a return line to the tank. I also installed a Boyds tank that has an Aeromotive A1000 intank pump that is supposed to be good up to 1000+ HP.

Re: Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
May I ask, if you've never worked with an LS motor....how exactly did you decide on an Lsx376 and a whipple? There are plenty of options to build a high hp ls motor, but the one you picked is an "off the catalog page" sort of thing.
Speartech is pretty well known, but I'm not a fan of mail order tuning, you can put together the same stuff from other sources. Mail order tuning something that high in power leaves huge room for error. That would by something that should be tuned in person, on a dyno. Things like "what coil packs" really don't strike me as the right questions to ask. How about, what fuel system are you going to run? Have you picked a trans? I think more of the small stuff will fall into place for you, if your concrete on the bigger plans.

Re: Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
I would suggest thumbing through a few lsx build threads on here ( start with Hart Rods, lots of good info and details) Most of us have previous LS experience from when our drivetrain donor vehicles were still on the road. Lots of noob questions (no offense) can be answered by looking through some builds. You have a lot to wrinkle out yet before wrench time starts, game plans on projects like this will save you $$$, time and headaches

Re: Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
Answers are most definitely amongst you. I think you just had a few questions that were a bit ahead of themselves. If your set on a decently cubed lsx and want to go supercharged. Then no harm, no foul on the motor choice. there are tons of other options but to each his own, and your choice will do the job. next would be transmission. Running a t56 will give you lots of good options as far as clutches go to hold the power. I've heard good things about the speartech harnesses, supposed to have good quality wire and connectors. Might wanna scroll through some of our vendors and see if they can cut you good package deal since your just getting rolling. Is this motor complete? cam etc? do you plan on running LS car or truck front drive? What swap mounts/headers are you going to use? Its ok if you do or don't know all the answers, just something to get you started thinking about and planning so you can build around it and get you a game plan. We are all here to help each other so don't be afraid to ask anything but try looking around first, most general ls questions have been redundantly answered, doesn't mean we won't answer again though lol Happy LSX'ing!

Re: Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
Yeah the lsx comes with the cam, heads, pretty much everything, not sure which headers will fit I've heard new style camaro headers but not too sure, I've also looked in twin carbon plate clutches from lingenfelders.

Not too sure on which front drive to run?

Re: Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
I would think you will likely have to run a car acc drive only for the clearance for the supercharger. Hart Rod might should chime in on that one and verify though. Mccleod makes some pretty wicked twin discs. Their street twin makes it easier to drive on the street if you plan on cruising and bruising. As far as headers go, if you don't plan on buying a direct bolt in swap headers like Doug Thorley, then I believe the trailblazer SS LT's are the closest to fitting the best. I've heard mixed things about having to shave a little off the frame rails but that seems to be the only issues I've personally heard about.

Re: Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
They are really nice and top quality. I've never used their swap headers but I have put a few sets on 4th and 5th gen camaros. They also get spendy fast

Re: Lsx376 2.9l whipple?
With that LSX motor you will have a tough time finding a set of headers that will work because of the six bolt heads. I know that the Trailblazer ss kooks LT's will not work with the extra tabs on the heads. I was able to put together a pretty stout forged "LS3" for much less than that lsx crate motor will cost you.
I can also tell you that the 2.9 whipple will clear the hood just fine. It sits up high but clears the 67 hood. For injectors I went with ID850's. I have the LS3 C6 whipple so I have the corvette accessories. You'll also need a fuel system to go with that 2.9 whipple. This stuff really adds up quickly. I guess it all depends on how deep your pockets are.

I talked to a tech at whipple and he's telling me to make 700rwhp I would have to run the 4.0l whipple which sits 13" off of the block and I don't think that monster will fit under my hood, I'm running a 2" cowl hood. Which ls coil packs to use? The ls3 style? And what fuel system are u guys running a know fast makes a gen 3 kit and mast performance has one capable of 1200 hp
