65 c10 interior paint advice

So I'm currently doing body work on my truckhoping to get her painted this summer. Originally I figured I would leave the interior factory beige/tan paint as is since it's in pretty good shape and I like that original look. So I see online most folks paint the interior to match the outside. Now I'm on the fence since now is the time to do it. This won't be a show truck just a clean driver. What to do?

My vote is "Original"! I love the look of the originals. Champagne and the silver/charcoal are hard to beat and go with any color scheme. IMO

Repaint it the factory color. It goes with pretty much anything you could put on the exterior.
That and I like the nostalgia.

Yeah, can't beat that fawn. I'm not sure it's worth repainting mine since it's in very decent cond. I could buff it out a bit maybe. Truck is a 45k mike truck.

Out of curiosity what do you all use to repaunt? Single stage?

I used single stage, I think it looks more old school, but with the BC CC you can wet sand and buff the clear coat, and get dust, mistakes, runs and imperfection out easier especially if you are doing it in a garage.

Don't buff it, it's supposed to be dull. I uses base coat with clear coat hardener added in. Reduced the base 50%, then added 15% hardener. That way it's full like the factory paint and still holds up pretty well.

Thanks for all the pics and info guys. I'm going to leave mine untouched. I will try and take extra care not to get overspray on any of that original awesome fawn when I do paint

I will have to do a small touch up since I'll be replacing the very lower kick panel on the drivers side.

While restoring my first truck many years ago, I repainted the interior to match the exterior. I took my time, did a fine job, and was very happy with how it turned out.
That truck was a source of pride for many years, but as time passed, I came to dislike the inside looking just like the outside. I got tired of so much of the same color, and regretted not keeping it fawn.

Not hi-jacking the thread, just curious ... I've seen '64-'66 columns and steering wheels painted white and also painted fawn. Did the color depend on the factory location, the option package, or was there just one stock color for the column & wheel and which was it?

I kind of like the idea of keeping the inside of cab looking more original. Almost like a mini time capsule when you step into and drive the truck makes it feel like the 60's. I think in some cases the same color interior and engine compartment look okay but more on show/hot rod/restomod touring type high dollar trucks. I believe drivers look better closer to original. Matter of fact I'm thinking of my bed and I think I'm going to go just pine and then spray on bed liner to make it fully functional.

Shiny dash boards look nice but the glare for a daily driver will get old. Keep the upper dash satin finish at least.

I removed my windshield and rear glass yesterday and was cleaning up that windshield goo. My dash might look a little faded obviously from nearly 50 years of sun and I got to thinking if I should just paint the interior fawn now that I'm at this stage. I don't know. I might just leave it. I don't think I will be able to reproduce that dull look. I had promised my self I would not touch the interior except for reupholstering the seat.

To get the dull look you can either add flattening agent to your paint if using a paint gun. Do some test panels to see how much to get the desired look. Let the test panels dry as it will keep dulling til dry. If spraying with a spray can you can top coat with a satin clear.

in my opinion you can never go wrong with the original Fawn. it just looks good with any exterior color.

the 64 was white the 65-66 Fawn

Jim, not all 64s were white. I believe early built trucks carried over the white but many are fawn. I have 2 stock 64s that are fawn and one that is white.

Can anyone give tips on how to spray overhead when shooting your ceiling with a hvlp gun???

Keep the gun full and tape the lid shut so it can't fall off. Tape a rag over the vent hole so nothing drips out but it can still breathe.

Might be able to jack up one side of the truck far enough, I just used my old pressurized gun and kept it full. The paint store had a hose fed gun but didn't see it till I was done and my old gun worked good. I was thinking of modifying the hvlp with a hose extension to keep the tank above the gun but never tried it. Good luck

Question about factory interior color. I see most of you have Fawn and there are a few white factory. But was there also a factory bluish silver color? I'm trying to figure out if mine is factory or not.
