Re: Oh No It Was An Accident! REALLY!
Thanks guys, I was having buyers remorse after I won the auction. But you guys are making me feel better. I plan to go pick it up myself with a large heavy duty tow dolly. I'm going to throw a good set of 15" rollers I got of a an 86 Nissan truck 6 bolt 5x5.5 with low offset. Also going to bring some fluid for the rear diff, and adjust the rear brakes loose so they wont drag. Also wondering if I need to remove the drive-shaft.

Re: Oh No It Was An Accident! REALLY!
I wouldnt worry abou tthe drive shaft, doesnt look like much compression in the engine lol!
It should be a closed drive system and I believe the tube slides toward the trans to get to the rear ujoint to disconnect it. Or just jack it up and slide the trailer under it

Totally CONGRATS!
I missed exactly how far you have to go to get it. I know where Hesperia is.

Re: Oh No It Was An Accident! REALLY!
I'd pull the drive shaft just to be on the safe side. Don't know what kind or shape the transmission is in. It should have had an enclosed drive shaft but with the V8 it may have been changed. Larry

Re: Oh No It Was An Accident! REALLY!
Not sure that one has a drive shaft in it rather than the torque tube that came with it.
I'll say one thing it beats the tar out of some high prices rigs I've seen posted lately, Ya did good on that one. Lots of dents to pound out of the fenders but they usually pound out and work out pretty easily.

Re: Oh No It Was An Accident! REALLY!
Thanks guys you are all making me very excited!!! Maybe it would be best to borrow a flatbed car trailer and get all 4 off the ground. I'm just worried about weight. I have a 98 Chevy silverado extended cab 4x4 with the 5.7L in it. Think it would be safe to pull this truck on a car trailer?

Re: Oh No It Was An Accident! REALLY!
Yeah I did some math and If i take my time, im looking at 450.00 in fuel
Here is another picture that I just got from the seller. I dont know if its just me or what, but the seller seems a little bitter about the sale. Im guessing he thought it was going to go for way more. The rear fender looks like its pretty bad. Last edited by CaliforniaDaddy; 06-19-2014 at 07:30 PM. |

Re: Oh No It Was An Accident! REALLY!
What Starterman said ^^^^^. It may be cheaper to rent a U-haul flat bed for a one-way tow than it would be in gas towing empty on the trip over.

That is an amazing stroke of luck! Congrats! If all else fails, you could sell it and make way more than you spent.

Re: Oh No It Was An Accident! REALLY!
Check with towing laws in each state you are passing through. Some states do not allow dolly towing. Some states require you to stop at weigh stations any time you are pulling a trailer. Some may require trailer brakes (a great idea regardless). Check out the laws so you know what to expect.

Re: Oh No It Was An Accident! REALLY!
I need to start learning about parts, what is all interchangeable?
47-53 truck parts? There is a local guy selling fenders doors running boards from a 53 5 window for cheap and the parts look clean. I was wondering if they would work on my 50?? |
