Carb linkage doohickey

On my 70 402 the linkage rod hooks into the pedal arm and THREADS into a fitting at the carb. This is backwards from my big block cars, but it's what the assembly manual says.

Anyway, there's a fitting that bolts to the carb that the throttle rod then threads through, so you can adjust the throttle linkage by removing it from the pedal rod and turning the linkage rod in that threaded carb fitting.

For some reason my truck was almost entirely unmolested except the kickdown and throttle linkage, which was brutally home made by (I can only assume) a farmer with a stick welder.

So, I do not have one. I might have had one and lost it, but I've given up.

Anyone know where I can find one? Seems like it should be a commonly lost part, but I can't find a replacement.

Cool! They're very similar to the thing that goes on the shift rod for an automatic as well, although that one is bigger and clamps on rather than threading on.

Below are pictures of what I think you are describing. However, these are from my 350. The 1st 2 are the part that attaches to the accelerator linkage. The 3rd is the end for the carb. I'd think the rods for the big block may be a different length and bent differently. But, since both have Q-jets and the same accelerator linkage, both ends of the rod are probably the same. I have extras. If you want one, I'll get one in the mail. Just let me know.

On mine the hooked end goes into the carb as well; I must have been looking at an L6 or something in the assembly manual.

There are two holes on my accelerator rod. I imagine this changes the sensitivity, and all I really care is that I get full travel. But anyone know where it's supposed to go?

As you can guess I have 500 photos of my teardown and NOT ONE that shows the back end of the linkage...

Hmmm... only 500 pictures? I have about 750, but that also includes the reassembly.

My rod is in the top hole of the linkage. I don't think the retaining clip will work if the rod is attached to the lower hole.

Actually, now that I look, only 350. Trust me, if I do another where I blow it apart to every individual fastener I'll take more photos. For some reason stuff I thought I'd never forget - stuff that's so plain and obvious you'd feel stupid writing it down - is a complete mystery 2 years later.

I did bag and tag all fasteners, and something like this would have gone in my "carb" baggie. I -did- find the part the truck came to me with, which was sort of a clamp thing that was again clearly home made.

No idea why an otherwise unmolested truck would have what is effectively a home made throttle and kickdown system tack-welded to the vacuum booster pipe.

Fortunately, I have the rod. Except for the carb end I could probably make a few. You'd want straight rod then tap the end later, the whole thing shouldn't be threaded.

I'm not in the shop a the moment but I'm not sure about the thread pitch, so check that before you start with 1/4 rod.

Here is the one I have. It is 11 3/4 long with 1/4 in rod.

Significantly shorter than the 4 I have from 350s. Is it safe to assume yours is from a big block since that's what Dave was asking about? At least the adjusting "nut/link" appears the same.
