carb adapter

i'm trying to put a higher performance carb on my inline 6 but the only carbs that will fit are the rochester quadrajets. will a carb adapter be able to let me convert to a high performance carb?

Re: carb adapter

If your Quad is a 4 barrel then yes. If you have a 2 barrel I wouldn't do it.

Re: carb adapter

it is a 2 barrel, why wouldn't you recommend it?

Re: carb adapter

Your compromising the flow path of the fuel air mixture. You could use a 500 chm Holley 2 barrel, and that would work fine or have you Quad rebuilt by a pro.

I had a Holley 2 barrel rebuilt once, and it flowed close to 650 cfm. It cost quite a chunk, but a few mods to a regular 2 barrel would wake up your engine.

Have you done anything else to your engine like advancing the timing?

Re: carb adapter

either get a holley 2 barrel

or switch to an aftermarket intake setup for a 4 barrel, if you do this you should look into a header and exhaust to really notice it.

Re: carb adapter

Let's back up for a minute.

There are 3 basic set ups for the inline sixes used in square bodies.
First, a non-integral head 1bbl Monojet carb. Non-integral means the intake manifold is not part of the head casting. The intake and exhaust bolt together under the carb and have studs and clamps that hold them cross-car to the head. The air cleaner base has a round opening at the carb.
Second, the integral head Monojet version was introduced in the later 70s on cars and trucks. The intake is part of the head and the exhaust bolts up to the bottom portion. Again the air cleaner base has a round carb opening.
The later light duty trucks had an integral head but a staged 2bbl carb. The two bores in the carb are different sizes and the air cleaner has a rectangular base.

There is a 4th version that was a Pontiac OHC that came factory with a Quadrajet. These parts will not bolt on the Chevy versions. If you have this, you need to talk to the Pontiac guys.

For non-integral and integral Monojet versions you can get adapters for other carbs. Generally a 4bbl is a waste as the intake doesn't flow the air correctly. Best bet is to swap to a performance intake and carb if non-integral. If integral consider swapping heads.
I've not seen an over the counter adapter for the staged 2bbl.

Re: carb adapter

2bl carb isn't a qudarajet more than likely a dualjet

Re: carb adapter

First of all, what year/displacement is your 6? Stock internals? Stock intake/exhaust?
