Question auxiliary battery tray

I'm considering an auxiliary battery for the '75 Blazer restoration, primarily to serve the stereo system.

I see a part in LMC for the auxiliary battery tray for sale, but I'm not sure where it goes.

If anyone has experience with the mounting location, wiring details, or pics would be even better, I'd appreciate the advice.

I also posted on the engine/drivetrain threads.
Thanks, Greg.

My friend had a 83 diesel with two batteries. It mirrors the passanger side (standard) tray. I don't know about the wiring or stuff. It needs a battery isolator (does that sound right?) or something I think. Someone will know more about it.

You would probably want to run with a battery isolator if you want the extra battery for your stereo. The diesel setup just runs the batteries in parallel. The diesel setup requires you to run the same batteries and to replace them in pairs. $$$.

On you model, it will mount on the drivers side with the post parallel to the fender. At least that is how the one we were going to install went and the bracket came from GM.

Check your prices with GM before you buy. I bought a replacement unit for my 82 Blazer a few years ago. I priced LMC, then called the dealer. The GM part was about half of the LMC price....

Ditto on what N2TRUX said. I bought all the stuff for my battery tray on the 78 Jimmy for less than what LMC listed.

I put the second factory tray in and it was a breeze to install.
I just went down to the Chevy place and plunked down $60 or so for it.

Thanks guys for the great feedback. As my front end is completely apart right now, would any of you who have this installation mind posting a pic? I'm planning the other underhood items, A/C, ram air intake etc. and would like to see how it fits.
Thanks.

Here is a pic out of a service manual on how the factory wired a diesel. If you have a gas burner you can ignore the relay as it is for the glow plugs.

I have the factory dual battery set-up in my 77 Blazer Chalet Camper. It consists of the tray, support bracket and an isolator. I'll try to get you some pics when the rain goes away.

The price is $49.95 for the tray and bracket at www.chevyduty.com. And don't forget the Optima batteries!
