HELP... steering column shaft problem

I just fixed my ignition problem by replacing the ignition rack. But now there is a new problem the shaft has A LOT of play in it. what could be making it move around? By the way i have 83 k10 with automatic and tilt steering column. How do i fix this? any advise is helpful.

I just fixed this today, the ring that sat in the small bearings wasn't far enough in and the cap that comes after that was on top of the spring not the bearings. so all i had to do was take off the lock plate and i was there. easy fix.
